I sometimes compare my accomplishments in life to others and feel like a failure. This has led to me having a very pessimistic attitude about my self worth and seems to discourage me from setting goals or improving myself. If I make a mistake, I often give up rather than persist in my goals.

Is there anyone in your life that said or did actions which suggested you can't do (anything) despite how you try? Did anyone compare you to others when you were younger?

Firstly, you have to start thinking who do you live for. There are a lot of people right at this moment that have accomplished a lot, including those around you. If you cannot keep up with them, take a small step at a time. Slowly and steadily you would reach higher and higher and ultimately to the desired top. During this phase you would be faced with a lot of inner struggles, but once you decide to fight them, beat the voices to a pulp. If people misunderstood you, tell yourself inside that they are incorrect (Don't confront them). You know yourself best, if you can do it, you can. If you can't, there's nothing wrong with it. You just need more time to figure it out, and that is perfectly fine. Besides, you are bound to have areas that are better than them. And that is evident enough to prove that they are too - less than perfect. So why are they speaking as if they are the indicant of perfection? Makes you wonder isn't it. Have more time with yourself, spend less time with negative people. Find out what you are good at.

Having gone through that, you would probably start to realise people that have a negative influence in your life doesn't matter anymore. You are only living for yourself. Live by this principle, you would get far.

Love yourself. If you would not set a goal that high for a child (because it takes time for a minor to learn) but instead willing to guide him/her step by step, do the same for yourself. We are but humans. Give yourself more time. It doesn't matter if you can't do it. Find another way and try. You will get there.

Make a moral code for yourself that has what you believe are reasonable goals and follow that instead of comparing yourself. I am sure you heard this a hundred, perhap thousands of times that everyone is different but by making your own moral code and attempting to accomplish it than you will not feel like a failure. Always try your hardest in everything you do, even while doing tasks that may seem insignificant.

Do not define yourself by your rank.
Have your own philosophy and know why you do what you are doing.
Then you will not feel the need to compare yourself to others as much.
If you are in school you should be there to learn first and get good grades second.
