I was at a football game the other day and noticed (not for the first time) that they keep slapping each other's butts.....why do they do that? I've never seen any other sport do that...is it some unwritten rule about football or something?

It's just a tradition. I'm guessing that way long ago some guy was about to go in and the coach wanted to wake him up so he slapped him on the rear. Other players started doing it to mock him and it caught on. Now it's just a part of the game. Just think of it this way... Baseball is to Sunflower Seeds as Football is to a slap on the rear. I don't think the game would be the same without it.

Actually it happens in baseball all the time. It used to happen in basketball but know hey butt hand with each other because thats cool i guess. Its just an old custom that they do.

It is unarmored, so you won't hurt your hand.
And usually the buttocks is not something tender. (I say usually because Jay Feeley or Fiedler got hurt bad from a butt slap.)
Then again maybe it is repressed homosexual tendencies.

A lot of sports have it. Its a confidence thing. It's not gay but I don't know it just happens. I don't neccesary do it

lol, sick as this might sound, when i was in college, we played Sac State and one of the deffensive backs said to me after the play..."hey 76 you got a big ole ***" THAT was gay

They do it in most man sports, and he's right it's not gay, but you won't see Tim Hardaway doin it.

that is such a guy thing.....even in my sons sports they all do it...not just football! its weird....i think they are just all trying to cop a feel! :-)
