As long as you both remember that your spouse is your best friend, everything else is easy. A marriage certainly requires work and effort, just as any friendship does. Humor is vital, so never stop finding things to laugh about with your spouse. The Beatles actually, were right. All you need IS love. Cuz, if you have that, all the other things that you need come a lot easier.

All you need is Love, without giving up.
Ok, so you have fallen out of love?
Or your still in love, but all the problems cloud over it and you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel?
First you have to remember that, you both loved each other in the beginning. Which means that your love for one another is currently smothered beneath all the things you have both piled up over the years.
Your not going to be able to find that same kind of excited love that you had in the beginning, that made you both make promises of a bright future together...so forget that. That is a failed attempt to try to reclaim that and you will end up disappointed.
Your going to have to start building a new love for one another. You have both grown and changed. You both have to learn to start to like each other again.
And your going to have to get to know each other in a different light. Meaning your both going to have to walk out of your environment...the home....to a coffee shop, library, walks, very simple things and not force trying to be something, just being yourselves and doing things together.
Don't discuss anything about your issues, your home, your children, nothing, expect enjoy whatever you doing.
Your going to have to attempt a few attempts, because the both of you are used to talking to each other in a certain way.
Let me tell you, give this all you can, because you will follow down the same path with another partner eventually. And you have come so far with this woman, that reaching a new level in your relationship after you get through this hump, will reward you with a new love that was more then when you met.
All you need is hope, faith and a little more time.
My motto is.... "don't expect others to give to you what you can't give to them."

Of course it takes "more" than love; but all good things stem from love.
We've been happily married 36 years, and I guarantee you, some of the key elements of a successful relationship are as follows; and 3 of the 4 elements definitely stem from a sense of love, but they involve emotional maturity as well.
1) A long list of common interests; things you both enjoy doing TOGETHER as opposed to separate interests and separate groups of friends.
2) A lot of tolerance for each other's differences. As much as you share in common, you're still going to rub one another wrong from time to time. Be mature and deal with it. Separate the small $h!t from the serious stuff.
3) A sense of compromise; so that you can work out your problems with a minimum of emotional trauma. It's marital negotiation.
4) A sense of sympathy and forgiveness. You're both going to screw up on occasion. You need to be able to forgive, forget, and move on with the relationship.

Well, love is the most important thing...and our actions should reflect the love we have our spouse. You must be willing to make the effort to know what is important to your spouse and how to communicate that love to him or her. If you bring your wife a box of chocolates when all she really wants is a back rub, you are doing your job.
I strongly recommend reading the Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage by Dr. Laura. Her insight is amazing and both my wife and I are reading it right now. We are happier now than when we first got married.
