You know what? I don't care! I drive an electric car. It costs me less than a penny per mile to drive around. I bought it used from eBay for only $2000. Here's a link to some other cheap electric vehicles:

I think the long term trend is for gas prices to go up, there is little if any extra production capacity in the Middle East, whatever surplus capacity there is will be used up shortly by rapidly industrializing China. The short term trend is also up as we are about to enter the peak demand season on gasoline, that is the summer driving season, this winter was the mildest on record worldwide so there was less than expected demand for heating oil so the prices slipped back a bit.

Hahaha! Hahahaaaa! Hahaaa! Right.
What causes gas prices to change? Here's a hint. You've heard of OPEC, what does it stand for? Oil producing Export >>Cartel<<. What do cartels do? They manipulate prices. To what purpose? To make as much money as possible.
Obviously, higher prices make you more money. However lower prices increase demand. So they strike a balance that makes them the most money.
They also manipulate the price of oil to make sure we keep buying oil. We've been talking about gasoline alternatives for 30 years, but they always manipulate the price so their oil is a little bit cheaper than the alternative. For instance, SVO biodiesel is about $3.00/gallon with taxes, and so the price of regular diesel has been 'Fixed' to be slightly less than that.
So, you are dealing with cartel economics.
Note that in the USA, it is illegal for several companies to get together and engage in cartel economics. Imagine if all the grocery stores got together and agreed to all raise prices 20%. That is called collusion or price fixing. OPEC is an international cartel, which is why they get away with it.

Actually they should pop up right about now, but it's believed not as high as they did last year, and then fade in the fall maybe further than they did last year.
