I'm doing a pet project for my school and I was wondering if you were going to do a shark, how big of an aquarium would you need to keep it alive? Also, how many gallons of water would that be? Thanks.

It depends what kind of shark you're asking about. Is it the small bony fish sold in pet stores or the "Jaws" sharks??

As for the small cyprinid shark, they aren't related to the sharks in the ocean, they are named that because of fin shape. They live in 30 gallon tanks and eat fish food.

For the "Jaws" sharks, it depends what kind of sharks. Nobody has ever EVER succeeded in keeping a great white in captivity for longer than 6months. On the other hand, people keep the smaller species like the lemon sharkfish or dogfish. These need about at least 300 gallons and a steady diet of live fish and crustaceans.

good luck

A person can easily keep any of these fresh water sharks in a 10 gallon tank. The whole setup is about $50 at Wal-Mart.

ruby(rainbow)shark, iridescent green shark(pang cat), bala shark, red-tailed shark

Keep temp. at 80 degrees. Feed sparingly once a day. All the above sharks can take a wide range of PH from 6.8-8.0.
