I think bringing in the minimum wage was one of the best things they've done, along with creating the longest period of economic stability the UK has seen since world war 2. The fox hunting ban, though an ethical move in principle, hasn't really achieved much except annoying the few people who practised it or made money out of it. And lets not forget that it was down to a free vote - so it wasn't only Labour who pushed it through.
As for the worst things Labour has Done. For me, the top two have to be the Iraq War and the proposed introduction of ID cards, a major part of the gradual erosion of civil liberties we've seen under this government.

The ban on fox hunting was indeed a Labour Bill in the House of Commons. However, the main supporters of this Bill included such as Anne Widecombe MP - a Tory. In any event, there was a free vote which resulted in a win for the Bill and thus for Labour. The law forbidding fox hunting is a bit of a mess and some think it rather ambiguous. No one really wants to stop people doing 'sport' it's just the hunting with dogs which some wanted to put an end to. It does not stop the killing of foxes however. Curiously the largest number of Hunts in England are located in the English Midlands where there are actually more foxes than anywhere else. In East Anglia, where are no Hunts and foxes are simply shot dead by gamekeepers, there are very few foxes. Hunting with dogs then does not keep the fox pop down. There are on average about two foxes to the acre in the countryside. Therefore in a single forty acre Sussex field there could be as many as eighty foxes. Blimey!

Banning fox hunting does not matter much either way, other than the small loss of liberty, it is really a question of taste as to whether fox hunting goes the way of **** fighting or bear baiting. Given all the other terrible things done by New Labour, such as reducing freedom to assemble, freedom of expression, right to a trial by jury, habeas corpus etc. etc.
Britain is one of the most watched and monitored societies, yet we have a very high crime rate where the guilty largely go unpunished, or even rewarded.
Sadist of all is that it is clear that David Cameron's centrist thinking will get us into even worse trouble. His tokenism green policies are going to lead us all down the garden path to nanny statedom.
As for Gordon - forget it, if he takes over the government will be into major crisis within three months.
Sorry to be so pessimistic. On the bright side we should be out of Iraq fairly soon (ha ha).

Perhaps the Tories, already committed to legalising hunting again could also abolish the minimum wage and allow Cameron's toff mates to hunt the poor.

Both were a fine example of the Labour Party in action
and i am pleased they got those bills through .
What they have failed to do in my opinion,
is to halt the escalation pf privatisation and to secure our infrastructure .
lets face it the country is in a mess !!!!
How will it ever be put back on track ,
neither
Tory's. Liberals or New Labour,
seem to have the 'clout ' to sort things out just now .
It will take an Emergency Coalition Government ,
on a' war time' footing,
to move things back to an acceptable level .
Meanwhile we can only , wait and see ........

The worst thing labour has done? The list is endless surely. Hard pushed to choose between the two things you've mentioned. They were both bad moves. Be more a brain teaser to ask members what the best thing is they've done.

I can only choose between those 2 things? Oh well if I must... Banning fox hunting was just stupid. Its totally unenforcable. Whats to stop a bunch of toffs dressing in red, going horseriding and taking their dogs for a run...Whoops...Rover caught a fox....Oh dear!
P.S The minimum wage is a good thing.

Reforming the House of Lords. It will slow legislation as now the Lords will have real power and Commons. Could a Prime Minister from the Lords be next?
