How do I stop my computer from automatically downloading device drivers?

I have a laptop and every time I plug my printer into it it downloads another driver and adds another copy to my list of printers. Can I stop this?

Somehow, you have the incorrect drivers installed for your printer. First unplug your printer and uninstall ALL existing printers - not just delete. Go to the website specific to your printer and get their latest drivers and install. Then when you plug in your printer, it should recognize and install the proper one. Make this your default printer. In the future, plug this printer into the same USB port, or you will get duplicate printers showing up for each port.
