The easiest way to trim your baby's nails may be to just peel the ends off with your fingers. They're so soft that the surplus will easily come away. Or you can buy a pair of baby scissors or nail clippers with specially rounded ends. The nail-cutting may be easier if there are two adults involved: one of you can hold the baby and keep him from wriggling too much while the other does the job. (You may also want to try it while your feeding or sleeping so that he'll be calmer.) Press the finger pad away from the nail to avoid nicking the skin, and keep a firm hold on your child's hand as you cut or clip.

Some parents also nibble the ends of their babies' nails to keep them from getting long and scratchy. As your tongue is more sensitive than scissors could ever be, you can nibble off the short surplus nail without hurting your baby. Also, babies rarely object to putting their hands in your mouth

For a new baby wait til they are asleep, that way they don't wriggle. As baby gets a bit bigger, you need to pick a nice calm moment and hold on firmly!! Pull back the skin underneath and you should be able to get a couple done at a time.

I find that nappy changes, early in the day are the best times. I prefer nail clippers as I find that biting just leaves a jagged edge, but whatever works for you is just fine.

This is one of my most hated jobs! All hell breaks out even if I just pick up the nail clippers! My son is 12 months old and hates it. I used to do it when he was asleep but that does not work any more. I have to sit him on my lap, put one leg around him to stop him wriggling off and then take a firm grip of his hand and hope for the best. If he gets too distressed I stop and carry on a little later. his toe nails are a little easier as I do 'this little piggy' at the same time, but he is starting to wise up to this!

When my son was under a month old I used little baby emery boards because I was paranoid I'd cut him with clippers. As a newborn their nails are soft enough it works fine. Once his nails hardened up more I used baby nail clippers when he was asleep. Lots of light and a sound asleep baby works wonders.

You can get little baby nail clippers (which are really cute, incidentally lol) It feels horrible to clip a baby's nails but if you don't the baby can scratch their face and that'd be a lot more painful for them than clipping their nails. The first time is pretty horrible but after that it is alright.

I use baby nail clippers only, and when they are really young I wait until they are sleeping. You can usually get a few done at a time that way if you are careful.

i use to wait till there asleep then cut there nails if they have just come out the bath its easy to pick them off but when they started to get a bit older i use to sing a song to them while i done it then when i closed the nail clipper properly i use to give it to them and let them make out they were cutting my nails they couldnt hurt themselves on it cos baby nail clippers have a little lip thing to stop you cutting to far down and they are much smaler in width than adult ones aswell

cant beleive this question is on here, it was just this morning when i accidently cut my little 3 month and half old girls skin instead of her nail, im finding it so difficult too,the last few nights she started to suck her thunb but while her thombs in her mouth her fingers are on her eye, so shes got scrathes so this morning i gave it a go with nail clippers and regretted it, poor little mite, but tonight i waited till she was asleep and bit them of, i think this is the best and the safest way!

I use baby nail clippers (Safety First brand) but I cut while he's asleep and make sure there's plenty of light!

Long nails can be harbingers for bacteria, specifically if they are artificial, but they will are good for scratching and opening those little foil wrapped containers which are so hard to get into.
