Born and raised in Boston. It's a matter of pride when I go to a Red Sox game in another city and the Red Sox fans are louder than the home town fans when chanting "Let's go Red Sox" or singing Take me out to the ballgame. It's almost not a challenge for 8 or 10 thousand Bostonians and transplanted Bostonians to outyell 35 or 40 thousand Angel fans. At those games, you discover that a large percentage of Red Sox nation is not from New England but are from places like Utah or Oregon and just came in to see the Red Sox. When in LA, catch a game at Sonny McLean's Irish Pub in Santa Monica where they charter 3 buses to Anaheim Stadium when the Red Sox are in town. That does not happen when the Tigers, Indians or even Yankees are in town. Is it because Boston is a great place to grow up? I don't know, but it's something special. So are going to games at Fenway, walking around the shops and stalls outside the park before the game, having everyone at the game be your friend, knowing when to sing Sweet Caroline, Dirty Water, Tessie and Joy to the World/Jeremiah was a bullfrog. So yes, proudly I am a Red Sox fan and if that makes me a member of Red Sox nation, better that than the Evil Empire any day.
