I think that my fairly-good-friend is being abused by his parents. I'm pretty worried about him. He is saying things that sound like obvious hints, and yesterday, he claimed he wasn't going to go home from school at all (he told me his parents threatened to call the police, so he walked home, despite the distance from school to his house). I think I may be totally reading waaaay into things, or misinterpreting, or overreacting, but I'm worried about him and I don't know what to do. Is there anything I should do? Should I ask him?

Talk to your parents And get their advice, or Maybe a close teacher that you trust.

What kind of abuse? I think you need to get your friend to open up a bit about what goes on at home. Ask him, why he wasn't going to go home from school yesterday. What were his parents going to call the police about? Did your friend do something that they would call the police for?

Let him know he can talk to you about any thing. But if he open up to you and he is being abused there is nothing you can do he has to go and ask for help from a adult at school or a police. Be careful both of you. I'll keep this young man in my prays.

OK, being abused is a horrible thing. By you not doing anything to help him, you can be putting his life at risk. Do not tell him that you are going to get him help He may stop you in fear of getting in trouble. Do the right thing tell a teacher. If that doesn't help go to the police. You have got God on your side, and God always wins. Have faith and pray for you friend. DO the right thing.

Yes, you should ask him. Go some place quiet, and sit him down and ask him what the heck is going on. That's what a good friend does. No kid should be afraid to go home. He should go to the police before he goes home if he's being physically ro mentally abused.

First ask him is everything is okay and see if he opens up to you. When he tells you, you can make a decision to tell your parents what's going on or maybe talk to a school teacher or counselor. I hope abuse is NOT the situation. Good Luck.

Talk to your parents and see if they are willing t help you help a friend in need. If you ask him he'll most likely be in-denial about the situation. And if this is the first incident and your not 101.1% sure wait a little and see.

Talk to him because it sounds like he may not have anyone else to talk to. Don't blab off to "the authorities" or anything. But get into his head and see how serious his situation is.
