I would say Phoenix. Denver is a great city and I love to visit, but I don't know if I could handle the cold.
Phoenix is great because it has the great restaurants, the great night life (scottsdale & tempe), there are great hotels/resorts, great outdoor activities, we have all the professional sports covered and we are in close proximity to whatever we are missing (its a 5 hour drive/45 min plane ride to San Diego or to Vegas; Mexico is close if you need to flee the country, and there are several skiing locations within a few hours drive.)
Not sure what is too close to Denver when you want to escape the snow that buried the city for days this past winter.

For real estate, your best bet is definetly Phoenix. It is growing, but it has boundries, because the reservations and government lands prevent it from spreading too far, so it will eventually become a limited commodity where the prices will rise according to availability.
Additionally, you have a lot of couples moving there with money, so the businesses are catering to this group of affluents who want to enjoy luxury living and all that goes with it. It is attracting solid businesses, so unlike Detroit, or Denver, where there are some sharp downturns in their economy so heavily entrenched in only one or two types of industries, Phoenix is more diversified, and adding computer and high tech type companies at a decent clip.
The cost of living is not unbearable and the taxes are not too bad. Selection of homes in different price ranges offer all sorts of options if that is what you are looking for, but the apartment/townhouse style living and their ammenities are so good, why bother with owning unless you want to rent it out for income. You have a plethera of the best shops available like in Vegas, and the dining is rich. Winter sports, like in LA, to Mammoth, just drive north and you will have all the skiing available to you, or hop on a plane to Utah, or to Mammoth, Ca. You can fly anywhere within a couple of hours to go skiing, and still come home to nice warm weather, when your toes are almost frozen. We just loved living there, but now with kids grown, married and living elsewhere, right now, we follow the grandkids. Maybe someday again, we will move back to Phoenix.

I don't know man, tough call...they both have alot to offer. I asked my self the same thing after college graduation. I'm gonna make the pitch for P-town tho. Phoenix has a great night life...Old Town Scottsdale is the main event for clubs, bars, and restaurants. It's a great place to head out to on the weekends. And you'll dig all the restaurants...plenty. As for the outdoors, the city is surrounded by mountains for hiking, biking and the like. And northern arizona is friggin great for that stuff too in the summer. If you choose AZ, try this place called Merc Bar, it's at the Biltmore Esplanade next to the Ritz Carlton...best joint in town. Good luck

I would say Arizona, the nightlife here is great, a little similar to Vegas, but very classy if you go to the right places! Old Town Scottsdale is great, for Steakhouses, Sushi Bars, Clubs. I have lived ehre my whole life and think it is great, also it is great for bike riding, all the mountains you will be able to do this. Real Estate here right now is at a standstill but it will pick up and you will enjoy it here!

Both cities have no shortage of great restaurants. I don't do nightlife, so no advice there. As for skiing, it should be fairly obvious that it's much better in the Rockies west of Denver. You'd laugh at the ski hills in Arizona. No shortage of other outdoor activities, though I can't recommend any of them in the brutal heat of summertime.
All in all, it sounds like Denver is a better match for you...with good mix of winter and summer activities.

I would say Denver is your better choice. While Arizona is nice, the nightlife you are looking for really isn't in Arizona right now. I just moved out of the state myself, and they had just started talking about building a nightlife section in downtown Phoenix. Denver has bars, resturants and clubs, and will probably be better for real estate.

I live in Phoenix and the heat we have is much hotter than Las Vegas. We have great restraunts. Biking is very popular here but definately not in the summer!!! Unless you go early. But most people don't realize how hot it really gets here. Well good luck with your choice.
