They are both Socket 775, but I wanted to get some opinions/facts before I tried.

the celeron D is not a dual core processor whereas the pentium d is, you need to make sure the motherboard will support the dual core processor, i imagine it wont but you should check it out with the motherboards manufacturers web site, many people are mistaken in thinking the celeron D is dual core, they are a basic economy type processor
