k..my groups member are having a debate on this crystal radio [made out of aluminum] v built. Half of them are saying that we picked up FM waves and the other half is saying that AM waves were picked up. I;m assuming its AM wave, but i could be wrong. Does anyone kno whether AM or FM are likely to be picked up from a crystal radio? And why the other one cannot be picked?

AM waves are more likely to be picked up, but IIRC, you can pick up FM waves as well (although I don't remember how).

A way to remember it is that crystal radios were used before FM stations were broadcasting...

I am curious about this myself. Years ago, before FM, crystal sets picked up stations, so they must have been AM. I'm also curious about so-called 'short wave' stations on crystal sets, if they can or cannot be tuned in.
