YES. It is already legal for medical uses, so it should be legal for all. If there is no harmful effects from medical marijuana, why shouldn't it be legal?

There Are Many Reasons Why Marijuana Should Be Legalized
There Are Many Reasons That Marijuana Should Be Legalized Marijuana is a controversial subject in most anywhere in the world. There are many reasons why marijuana is thought to be a controversial topic, be it the psychoactive effects on the brain or the long term effects on the entire human body. These issues can be argued with evidence of the beneficial effects of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in the human body. Also with the monetary issues of the drug as an industrial product. First off, we'll look at the comparison by many between tobacco and marijuana. Marijuana in comparison with tobacco is six times more depleating to the lungs, this can be offset with the fact that tobacco is addicting physically where marijuana is not. Marijuana smoked in the same amount as tobacco is more delapitating to the body, but since marijuana is not addictive physically there is not a need for the same amount to be smoked. This means only that if a person were dependant on marijuana as they were tobacco, then the marijuana would have such a profound physical effect. Secondly, there is an undermining cultural acceptance of marijuana throughout
I don't think it will be legalized though... i mean there are so many nonsmoking places now ...they won't legalize marijuana when they are about to make tobbacco illegal.

I believe that all illegal drugs should be legalized, but under several conditions. The Government would be the only ones authorized to produce these drugs, this would include marijuana. This way, they would be able to produce an additional revenue to help pay down our debt. They would be able to control the quality of drugs, so that they wouldn't be "cut" with other chemicals. They would be selling drugs with clean supplies to cut the spread of diseases. The other major stipulation is that when you want to take part in the use of these recreational drugs, you must do it in a specific place, so that you will not be allowed to leave until the drugs effects wear off, so as you do not hurt yourself or others. These could be hotels that the government would also run, (I'm creating more jobs for the government, which increases the economy by providing revenue for people).
Since I don't participate in illegal drug use, I feel this would be beneficial to all non users, as it would keep users and dealers off the streets (why pay a dealer when the governments rates are fare and you know it will be good and clean?). And this benefit would take a little longer, but the users who do the strong stuff, the stuff that could kill you after only a few uses, would be dead! And no one could be blamed but the users themselves, because it was their choice!

Yes and no. There are good points to legalizing pot, but there are bad points too. If it was legal then it could be grown in a controlled environment, which means they could control the potentcy as they do with liquir and beer. So then there would be Alcapolco tan (regular or 80 proof), brown(Medium or 90 proof), and gold (High powered or 100 proof). There could also be a certain amount of the revenue directed towards school funding, roads taxes, etc. Ok, now the bad things. If you could just go to the ABC Store and buy a pack of pot, then it would become a thing such as drinking is. In stead of going to the bar to have a drink or two, you'd be going to the smoke shack to catch a buzz, which means that you would have to drive home, which means another high or wiped out person on the roads. Don't get me wrong when I say this, because I like weed as much as the next guy, but the police are just in the last 10 years getting to where they have some sort of grasp on drunk drivers and to turn around and turn loose a bunch of stoned people on the streets seems a little bit stupid to me. I grew up in a different era and there were a whole lot less cars on the road back then, as compaired to now. Maybe about 1/4 as many cars on the road. Alcohol does enough damage. Let's not turn a bunch of pot heads loose on the roads.

Well I stand for the medicinal legalization of it, that's for sure. Without getting too personal, I have a painful and debilitating health condition. Four years ago I lived in a state that allowed medicinal marijuana. I was able to largely get off my pain medication, which I'd been addicted to for five years. I was able to function better socially and mentally. No, it doesn't make pain go away. What it does is help the sufferer compartmentalize that pain and be able to concentrate on something besides the pain. It is so beneficial in so many ways, not only to my condition, but to others as well. Cancer patients going through chemo often face the double jeopardy of losing their appetites just when they have the need to eat regularly to maintain health and strength. Pot allows them to recapture some of that appetite and that's a large boon to someone trying to survive chemo and cancer at the same time.
I think that marijuana legalization has become so politicized that those who really need it for medicinal purposes pay the price and I think that stinks. Now I'm back in a state that doesn't allow for it and I'm struggling to function without being in la-la land from the pain medications that have once again become a daily part of my life. Just as a side note, when I got off my pain meds previously, I did experience some very uncomfortable withdrawal. When I left the marijuana behind, no withdrawal, no addictive quality to it whatsoever - just a sadness that the government would rather have me addicted to a chemical substance than allow me a natural one that benefits me more.

One thing nobody has thought about! If it is legalized do you think you would ever see seeds again? NOPE,, Seeds would still be illegal,, along with home growing!! The government would control this like cigarettes,, The taxes would be outrageous yes , and it would be used as a sin tax to build many of government facilities, sports arenas etc,,!! But I don't think it will happen ,, Not Even after saying how much money they would make ,, for our sake that may be good since marijuana stays in your system like 25-30 days! Why do I say this , well think about what they would do to anyone that was involved in an auto crash,, yep they will test you for marijuana,, they will say you were high,, your now at fault,, loosing you drivers license,, just like a DUI probably even worse,, but the thing is you may have smoked two weeks prior,, so no you were not high at the time of the auto crash,, but you know they will say you were!! Just my thoughts!

NO, NO, NO.
Right now, smoking a little weed does not put you at the top of the 10 most wanted list. Will you get busted if you are caught with some pot?....Yes, but if you are responsible and don't stand in the parking lot of a bar, huffing a blunt, you should be pretty safe. Right now cops are more focused on high level dealers, crack dealers and meth labs.
Doesn't everyone realize who will be in control of your pot if Marijuana is legalized. THE GOVERNMENT. The weed will be of a lesser quality and we'll be paying $500 for a quarter oz. Right now just about everyone from every walk of life can partake in a good buzz if they choose. If the government gets control, it will be one more thing to add to the list for the haves and remove from list for the have-nots.
To avoid the production of ragweed, the government will be hiring guys like the ones from 'dude where's my car' as state and federal employees and our tax dollars will be paying their wages, health insurance & pensions.
NO, Marijuana should not be legalized.
I wanted to add this final point. For anyone out there who thinks that the extra tax dollars could be used to feed the hungry and house the homeless, or maybe pay for more teachers and school programs or possibly we could use it for medical research and cure some horrific disease..... I have one question. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING ALL OF YOUR LIFE?!
The government already has a vast pool of sources that it uses to collect new tax dollars everyday. New york state alone gets about $3 in taxes per pack of cigarettes that is sold in the state. Do you see any of these humanitarians in office doing anything magical or wonderful with the money that they already currently rake from the hard working citizens of this country. No, they use the money to hire a bunch of schlubs to sit around and come up with new ways to tax us.
And don't even get me started on where the all this wonderful extra tax money would get spent if something like this came about during the Bush administration. Actually if Haliburton was harvesting crops, I'm sure the majority's dream would come true and it would already be legal. There would also probably be a required, daily, medicinal dosage for all government and military personel.

Yes, because it is a cash crop. It would effect the economy the world over. Of course, all those who promote alcohol would feel the pain.
Not only that, but if I could go to the store and buy marijuana the same way I can buy alcohol....I'd smoke a lot less. There would never be that frustration of, "I'm trying to smoke a joint, but I don't know where it's at". I don't keep big bottles of liquor around. I just get it...as needed. It'd be the same way with herb.
Where I live it's always a pain to find, a lot of people like to put roach spray and formaldehyde and pcp on the weed so they can sell it for more $$$ and not tell people what's on/in it. That's dangerous. I knew a guy who used to spray this orange cleaner with all kinds of chemicals in it. Just so the bud would smell orange-y. Ever heard of an orange peel and a refrigerator stupid???

I have had many discussion about this question, I have came to the conclusion that is shouldn't be, because people don't act like there normal self, so I come to the conclusion that anyone under the influence has a higher chance of commiting a crime or lets say better yet anyone who has committed a crime has a better chance of committed a greater crime, and imagine all the money that will need to be use to patrol, arrest, prisons and ect. It will cause more problems than people think, children will be more prone to try it if it's legal, more people will be able to sell to, it would just be a big mess. I cannot say that all people who do it are bad, because there not, most of the people I know smoke and I don't like it when they get in trouble for smoking because it's so common now-a-days, but the truth of the matter is that there would be a higher crime waive, and a lot more people would do it (including children) because the law says it's okay.

I think it should be. The only reason I feel it hasn't been yet is because the government can't figure out how to regulate it and stop people they don't want from growing it. I think of all substances out there Marijuana is one of the least harmful, it's even considered a less dangerous drug then cigarettes.
I also think that people that say Marijuana is bad, but have or do drink or smoke cigarettes are hypocrites. Especially since both alcohol and tobacco were both illegal up until the early 1900's.

from what i've read so far many people that are answering this question have no clue what they are talking about. Many of the people that answered no are just spewing out the propaganda bullshit that our government has fed us. They made our grandparents and parents think that pot it is a devil plant that will lead a person down a road of madness. Some of you people should watch the film refer madness and see how rediculous this idea is. One person said that this has made women schizophrenic... of course they did not provide any proof of this claim. Millions of people are plagued by mental disorders does that mean they have all smoked themselves insane? Doubt it.
anyway do i think marijuana should be legal? yes...but i don't know how good of an idea it would be for the gov to regulate it. The government has ruined many peoples lives by throwing them in prison for this plant. So i don't think that we should turn around and make them rich. People should be able to grow their own supply in their own homes. Keeping marijuana illegal will continue to ruin the lives of many innocent people until people stop believing all the propaganda. Las Vegas was almost a 50/50 split for legalizing up to an ounce for recreation. The no's won by just a nut hair.
Overgrow the Government!!! SRH
