Depends on how you travel. Pets aren't allowed on planes anymore unless it's a specific airline service that accomidates pets. I have traveled on buses and trains with my two pet hampsters with no trouble.
As for where you go, it depends. The hotel you stay at may freak out about the idea of your hampster in the room despite it being in a cage. Plus in a small hotell room, the hampster's actions may keep you awake at night.
Considering all the varibles to accomidating for your hampster, the good is overun with the bad. Bringing your hampster to a hotell with you when regardless you will spend a majority of your vacation outside your room. I would say leave it in the care of someone you can trust, and then go have a good time.
Unless, of course, you love you hampster enough that the vacation would be much better with him/her. If that's the case, I understand, and take a train or bus.

yes its okay to take him, however, hamsters do not like change too much. It depends how long your gone and maybe you can get a friend to come to your house every 2-3 days to check on it to make sure it has food and water, really the best thing to do is to let him stay home and if you can't then before taking him with you make sure the place where you will be going lets you bring pets don't wait to get there and find out you are not able to keep him with you and then you might have to keep in the car which is a no no. Hope you figure it out.

Yes, you should take your hamster with you when you go on vacations ... but ONLY if the 'vacations' are 'on land' and in the country you live in. Get him a little 'travel cage' and let him 'ride' in that, and then you can either use a 'folding cage' that is larger, or just put him into a pocket (shirt front is best, so he won't get squashed) so he can 'stay at the hotel' or 'go with you' to wherever you are going. I've RAISED HAMSTERS, and have taken several of my 'special pet' hamsters with me when I went on 'vacation' and they were 'just fine' ... since they are nocturnal, he'll 'mostly sleep' in your pocket, but he'll feel your heartbeat, and 'smell you' and that will make him feel 'safe and loved' ...

How long are you going for? Your hamster will be fine for 1 to 4 nights on it's own, as long as you put extra food and fill his water right before you leave. If you will be gone for longer, then it is OK to take him as long as he has a smooth travel. Don't take him if you are going on a plane or train, have someone stop by every few days to check up on him. I took my hamster on a car trip for 4 nights and he was fine, but please, no longer then that.

Well, I used to have a hamster, and I left it at home if I was going to be gone for only a couple of days. If you take it with you, be sure to take plenty of food, it's cage, and be sure to put it somewhere in your car that the cage won't bounce around. If you are taking a plane or boat, I wouldn't take it. Have someone to go feed it once a day.

the answer is a big fat no!! Hamsters are very teritorial and dont like new surroundings. Being moved anywhere is very traumatic for them. I to have a syrian (proper name for teddy bear) and when me and my husband go on holiday we give our next door neighbour our house key and he pops in every day to give Harry fresh food and water. Your hamster will be perfectly happy and content, to be left alone for a week or two to eat, sleep, and be lazy!!

Nice idea, but I think he would be better off at home or with a petsitter or friend for the few times you are traveling. This could be a very stressful situation for your hamster and he might get sick!

Oh no....please do not. The trauma will be too great and could kill him. They do NOT like being in unfamiliar terrain. Hire a pet sitting service to feed him , or trust a neighbor or friend to come by and check on him. But do not take him on a vacation... you will regret it. He will be okay alone. Lonely, maybe, but he will be secure in his own home where he knows safety.

Sure... but make sure you don't leave him in the car cuz he/she might suffocate. Make sure he /she is safe. If he/she does go, I hope he/she will have a great time! I used to have a teddy bear hamster and i luved her sooo much!!!
