the details I can remember involve a house fire, a girl who loses her hair, and kids being kidnapped to work in a factory? (making paintbrushes I think?). Can anyone tell me the name of this movie??

It was The Peanut Butter Solution, but it was actually the male character who lost his hair.
One of the weirdest but best movies I've ever seen.
Good luck finding it though, Ebay's probably your best bet.
