Its about natural selection--starts with an a I think but I'm completely having a DUH moment trying to remember the word for separating the weakest from the strongest. Anyone remember or am I doomed to let this bother me until I quit thinking about it long enough for the answer to hit me over the head with a brick?

Culling is the process of selection of surplus animals from an animal population. In a wild population the selection is often done by destroying the animal immediately, in a domesticated situation the culling process involves selection and the selling of surplus stock.

personally i don't think it has anything to do with natural selection at all the term weeding is a gardening reference to purposely removing weeds. so i always thought it meant you made the group go through rigorous activities or exercises so that the weaker ones will fall behind and drop out. like in sports or military training the first few days are very hard to see who will make it to til the end.
