I know I am doing a wrong thing, but this is kind of fun.

1) Rutherford Hayes didn't actually defeat Samuel Tilden in the 1876 election, but he did become president (remind you of anyone?)

2) I've never even heard of the Union League, but by elimination it must be your second answer.

3) The fourteenth amendment was passed for this purpose, but it has had some unintended consequences we're feeling right now.

4) Haven't heard of this one either, but what could it be but Juneteenth?

5) They were called carbetbaggers because many of them carried their belongings in a heavy fabric folding bag. Don't feel sorry for them; they made a lot of money on the deal.

6) That 1877 compromise is what gave Hayes the presidency, and put southern Blacks in serious danger.

7) Andrew Johnson was impeached for being too nice to the former Confederates. In retrospect, could he have been wiser than the Radical Republicans who despised him?

8) Sam Grant was elected in 1868, proved thoroughly incompetent, and was reelected in 1872 (remind you of anybody?).

9) This is harder if you don't know who anybody was. Just as a hint, Nate Forrest was one of the all-time great cavalry leaders, and late in the war he cut up badly a superior force led by John Wayne, aka Ben Grierson.

10) Heck, ain't but one answer left, and if you don't know what separation of people by group is called you haven't been paying attention.

I don't know where to put Abe Lincoln, who gave a famous speech in my hometown; or Thad Stevens, whose business was burnt down by Confederate troops on their way here. These guys are kind of lost in the shuffle.

I thought Juneteenth was some kind of celebration day about James Joyce's "Ulysses"

I will help you by suggesting you open your text book and read. Only by looking up the answers yourself and thinking about it will you learn the material. I would be doing you a disservice doing it for you, but I do wish you the best.
