i didn't mean what does it stand for, what does it mean.

It does mean emotional, but not so much in the sole sense of an emotion but rather a way of life. They are very earthy, into coffee shops, poetry and the like.

It reminds be of a kind of Make love not war mentality. There is and entire emo movement consisting of teenagers and young adults. I think of them as this generation's hippies.

It is really kind of cool. Anytime people sit around talking about how things make them feel and why it had to come from a positive place.

Now, with that said I think some of the emo music is REALLY depressing but I am not an emo so I just don't really get it. It is almost like there is a sense of enjoyment with being depressed because at least it is real.

Have you heard of Screamo? Well it is just what it sounds like. Music with screaming vocals. The screamo kids I know are skateboarders and BMXers, but it is a kind of sub-culture too.

My two oldest daughters share the basement. One is an emo and the other is a screamo. Oil & Water but the laughs just keep on coming.

The true Emo is a style of music that began in the 80's where the singers showed lots of emotion in their lyrics and songs. It has turned into more of a style now with the kids wearing tight pants and whining alot. The kids you see crying and cutting themselves etc. are usually doing that for attention and are not true emo.

emo-was a term coined to describe a style of music that feature all the ussual guitar centric punk aspects but expressed emotions outside the ussualy punk pallet of allienation and rage. It has become a sort of counter culture generaly identified with dark clothing(not to be confused with complicated gothic) and open displays of emotion outside the usual social bounds like hugging beetween male freinds.
