If you met them here you can do a search in the Yahoo! Member's Directory. Maybe you can find them there.
http://members.yahoo.com/interests?.oc=a
Using YIM, AIM, ICQ, MSN you can also search for them with their respective search abilities and better yet if you remember their member ID.
If you met them here they're also probably still on the internet. Maybe just not as active in online communities.
Check social networking sites such as
http://www.facebook.com
http://www.myspace.com (has an alumni feature or search by name)
http://www.friendster.com
http://www.classmates.com (or alumni)
Finally I don't know how well you knew them but you could also try
http://www.411.com/
http://www.whitepages.com/9900/
Good luck in your search.

Try friendsreunited.com. It's a free website that I have already located a number of people with. The adage that 'good friends are precious and rare' and not so good friends 'like autumn leave scattered everywhere' really rings true, so I wish you the best of luck. However, I believe that if these friends are meant to be in your life that you will find them! Good luck!

It took me several months, but I found two friends by perseverance.
You have to have the exact spelling of their name, if it is female then their maid name and married name. If it is a male then his full name.
I found one in of all place in Tucson AZ. He had an interest amateur radio. Found this guy in an editorial section of a Tucson paper. Went a little further and his call letters for his amateur Radio. Through that I got his active email addy.
The second I found through simple telephone book . . . . . .on-line telephone directory. And he lives about 100 miles north of me.
So they can be found, but you need more then the email name (padlock99).

Erect some scaffolding with a cage within the core of his room (just like the set-up in mouse entice) then head to probably the most inner and un-inhabitable region of the eastern Peruvian rain forest the place you can find a small, but welcoming tribe of natives called the ' Waka-lambo-sigu-tango-few minutes-bongo Tribe', who will in turn exhibit you how to make hearth by way of rubbing two sticks together. Provide the tribesmen a sacrificial unicorn as an expression of your gratitude then make your excuses and take this hearth back to his room, place it under the cage, flip his lights out, then just as your pal heads below the cage and toward the fire to inspect it, 'SPLAT' him along with your boot.

Myspace.com
I hate the site but its great for old friends. If you know thier names you can search for them and they might have a page and you can see the pictures and so on.
