I don't think it's right for the government to decide the women have to see a picture of an ultrasound before they have an abortion. It's not right. One, why should MEN decide that? And two, why should the government have that power? If women weren't allowed to have abortions, newly born children be left in dumpsters or on the street to die. It's a horrible thought! What do you think?

The morals of abortion are debatable but it should NEVER be banned. NO government should have control of anyone's body...

If people would understand the legality behind the Supreme Court the debate would no longer be as binary as pro-life / pro-choice. What the actual politicians are fighting over in session, but what the average American does not hear, is whether the Federal Government has the right to control the States' legislation on moral issues.

Politicians, at least the ones who aren't insane, are more apt to be discussing Federalism vs. State Rights rather than Pro-Choice / Pro Life issues. Imagine it this way:

If the Federal Government / Supreme Court does not have the jurisdiction to tell the State governments that all women should have the right to an abortion, does that mean the Federal Government can not define for the State governments a Legal Marriage (i.e., between a Man and a Woman)?

Conversely, if the Federal Government is allowed to tell the States that a woman has the right to an abortion, does that mean the Federal Government is allowed to tell the States that gay people are sodomites, or black people don't deserve school funding?

It's not just about abortion, folks.

Unlike embryonic stem-cell research where an embryo is killed, abortion kills a fetus which already has 85% of a born baby's characteristics or above (depending when it is aborted) so it is essentially like killing a born human. Plus what good will come of abortion? With Stem-cell research we might be able to save lives, but with abortion you are merely killing. There is one exception to all this and I hope it will be heeded. If the mother's life is at stake, then the mother's life should take priority. This is the only circumstance when I see it as ethically correct. Plus if you legalize abortion then more teens will stop using condoms and next thing you know more unwanted pregancies and killing. By no means am I religious but I feel it is wrong for these reasons. However, I wish to be unbiased and show both sides of the argument. You mention that newborn children may be left to die in dumpsters or on the street. I feel this may be a tad exagerrated but anyways. If we have too many babies in this world then we won't be able to sustain a high standard of living for each one. I mean look at what's going on in China. They are going to experience a huge famine in a few years because they have a population too large for the infrastructure. Abortion would be essentially a logical way for population control, an idea that social philosopher Jeremy Bentham believed was essential to maintaing a high standard of living. The latter argument seems a bit darwinistic to me, however, so I believe it is best if abortion is made an illegal procedure unless it is determined that the mother will suffer injury if she does proceed with birth.

Remember that abortion is a very big business with some people making lots of money. You have clearly bought into the lie that the government has the power to control you and your body. When has society stopped believing in the sanctity of human life? Why is one life better than the other? People should have the right to choose life. It is a very real possibility that in the near future there will be more old people than young which makes me wonder, how can society survive without people working and generating money and creating a good economy. We cannot have a next generation without children. Just something to think about.

It's a widely-accepted fallacy that abortion is a woman's right. Some people would like to sit around and shoot heroin all day long.....why don't they have the right to do that? Many people "illegally" commit suicide every day as well.....why doesn't the government allow them to do it legally? Put it this way: a woman cannot legally terminate her own life through suicide, yet she's legally able to terminate the life of the baby inside her? Are people who support abortion disingenuous, or are they simply basing their entire ethical argument on symmantics? Let's not forget that for every aborted baby, there is also a man who helped give life to that baby. Why do the fathers have no say whatsoever in what happens to the baby? You know, the term "possession is nine-tenths of the law" was never intended to be taken literally, yet this is a key talking point of countless pro-abortion activists. But sure, let them go ahead and kill the babies so that they can get on with their self-gratifying, miserable lives. How disgusting and selfish!
P.S.: I'm not a Christian, and I don't believe in God. I believe human life is precious, unlike those who support abortion.

No it is not right. Men should have a say because they are just as much a parent as the mother. If new born children are left in dumpsters it would not because women were not allowed to have an abortion, it would be because she already had low moral standards and lacked responsibility and maturity anyway. Just because we have a law that says killing your baby is legal, it doesn't make it any less moral than leaving it in a dumpster.

I am not judging whether abortion is right or wrong. It IS, however, legal. Looking at a picture of an ultrasound most likely would not change a woman's mind. When a woman decides to have an abortion, she has spent a long time weighing the pros and cons before even making the appointment.

No.

"If women weren't allowed to have abortions, newly born children be left in dumpsters or on the street to die."

Just not true. You can leave an unwanted baby at any hospital and they will take it no questions asked.

Many people disagree on when (and whether) abortion is ever morally justified. That's a personal or religious issue
But the law is more than religious morality.

And under the current law (set in 1992, long after Roe v. Wade), the standard is that states can regulate abortion, but cannot impose an undue (excessive) burden on the right to choose. That's the balance the courts struck between the rights of the mother, and the rights of the unborn.

Under that standard, many regulations and requirements are allowed, as long as they don't make it impose too excessive a limit. And as distasteful as many find the South Carolina law, it will probably survive since it doesn't actually interfere with the individual's right to choose -- it just mandates that certain factual medical information be provided.

I don't approve of that law, but it is likely constitutionally valid.

We have a Representative government. It should be left up to the people to vote for or against politicians that are pro-abortion or pro-life.

Unfortunately the vast majority of abortions are simply for the convenience of those who parented the child and not for the child. Everyday we make excuses and do things to avoid the consequences of our actions.

I doubt highly that if abortion was illegal we would have this increase of babies in dumpsters or left on the streets to die. Is this what you would do? And which is more cruel?

Do you understand the procedure to abortion? To you know what a doctor does in partial birth abortion? I hope you look up these procedures. They are barbaric and a child is a child.

I cried when i saw a movie with scenes of a little baby's body's parts being taken from the mother, but i don't think it should be outlawed ,because women will do it anyway and it would cause lots of problems but I do think that if a baby can be born they don't kill it right before it can come out alive
they should be given options other then killing children though
people should care more for the future mothers and there baby's and give them assistance.
But in the end, its the women's right to kill the baby if they wish to
