According to Move On, George Soros and the other Extreme Left Liberals, it is because they Bought the Democrat Party. They are not afraid to say it out loud to anyone, and you can clearly see how the Democrats kowtow to their new Owners!

The same way that the radical right got control of the Republican party. Both groups are loud, have money and more importantly vote in the primaries when the moderates of each party tends to stay home. This gives each group tremendous power. Until the moderates start voting in the primaries it will stay this way.

It stuns me how misinformed the Republican backers are. If you think that the Democrats are leftists you have no idea what left really is. It would do well for Americans if they had a leftist party to dampen the effects of the capitalist (live or die) Democrats and Republicans.

The fringe left was just elected to Congress....so the American people put them in control.

There is no such thing as the "Democrat" party.

The Democratic party is currently under the control of the DLC, which is a conservative group.

That is why Clinton was more conservative than Bush is.

What I want to know is why I became seen as an enemy to my country because my views differed from the current "idea du jour", even while I was serving my country overseas? I want to know why hatred and pedagogy are so much easier to sell in a public forum than an honest discussion about differences. I want to know why all Democrats are suddenly labeled as liberals (when did this happen? I thought the majority were quite moderate, actually). I want to know why visionaries are considered dangers to society, when America's visionaries are busy creating lasting solutions to social problems (think renewable energy sources, inner city life skills centers, vaccines, infrastructure innovation)? I want to know when Americans stopped being able to THINK for themselves. I want to know why it is considered tacky to be truly compassionate. Why are people content to understand only the surface of a problem, not the complexity? Why do they consider it so self-gratifying to bring down others who do think (look at me, I'm so much smarter than so-and-so with the PhD)? When did our worship of stupidity, greed, and ignorance become so entrenched that any perceived shift in balance of power threatens to destroy the very foundations of your little world? Aren't the most stable natural systems the ones that adapt best to change?

Hello, does anyone recall the rise of fascism in Europe? Hmm... let's see... book burning, attacks on intellectuals, conformity, simplistic presentation of complex facts, suppression of undesirables, sectarianism, neighbors suspicious of neighbors, required patriotic displays and marches, alleginece to order, safety, and the national good, and uber-allegience to/ hero worship of the almighty uniform. Be afraid, be very, very afraid. This type of shift starts here- with the labeling of others as "alien from and lesser than, me".

"It is afr better to burn the flag and uphold the Constitution than to burn the Constitution while displaying the flag". Do some good, will you- stop trying to alienate others with hatred, and take a good look at what you personally have to offer the world to make it a better place. Somehow I don't think that includes destroying half of your country's population. Come back when you've done something to make your community better- you can start there.

By being right time after time, even in the face of a powerful misinformation machine, by being honest and intelligent and absolutely correct about what has been happening to our country since BushCo occupied the White House, by winning credibility in contrast to the in-your-face contempt the current administration has for our constitution and our democracy.

Where have you been?

It started in 1972 with the reforms they made to their party's rules that allowed McGovern and his supporters to take over the party. Basically it became an anti-war party then with only a few remnants of the previous party hawks or social conservatives. Even though Clinton was endorsed by an element of the party that tried to pull it back from the push the Carterites did to take the party further to the left, Clinton governed to the left. Thus someone who previously was seen as a moderate like Lieberman is now persona non Grata in the party and seen as a conservative to the left wingers.

How did the religious right get a hold of the republicans? It's a sign of the times - the people on the far left are perhaps rebelling against the far right, so now this is what you have. In 20 years it'll be something different.
