We have all known people who say one thing and mean another, words spoken in both disdain and offhanded compliments, if you don't know the person well you can easily misinterperet and take offence where none was meant.

I prefer plain spoken people, and not those who play games in this way. . . .it's annoying.

What do you do when confronted by mixed messages, and those who employ them?

Tell Matticus he WANTS to KNOW.

I also prefer plain spoken camaraderie - a spirit of friendly good-fellowship.

When confronted with mixed messages and those who employ them, I sometimes respond with sarcasm.

I plainly believe that words spoken in disdain are always intentional - an offhanded compliment is meant to poke fun.

Not only do I receive them but I send them all the time. It's a mixed message world and the one who plays the best wins.

Well, Matticus, lol, I got this 1 message from my ex saying that he still and always will love me. The next day, I saw him at the cafe, took his drink (cuz I wasn't wasting my money) and spilled it on his "brand new" tux. I saw him wear that thousands of times and it STILL smells like sh!t.

Well, just the other day something unfortunate happened to me at school (long story), and this girl said "Something like that WOULD happen to you." She's my friend (sort of) so I sat there thinking "What's that supposed to mean?!?" Did she mean I suck and I deserved it or, Geez, you have bad luck.

I NEED TO KNOW.

I think this is an example of a "mixed message."

Sometimes I do get mixed messages.
It depends on the person I'm conversing with... but sometimes I will flat out ask them what they mean, & other times I will just walk away laughing & leave them to be confused ;-)

I prefer plain spoken people as well, that way you know what you are dealing with..... Not a bunch of word games.

Yes. At times I wonder what people are trying to say. It's annoying when people don't say what they mean. I feel if you have something to say then come out and say it instead of beating around the bush. I don't like double talk either.
