How many ultrasounds have you had during your pregnancy? Did anyone have the 3-D ultrasounds done? Did you have to make a special request for that? I am 25 weeks and have had two ultrasounds so far....only because my doctor and her receptionist both scheduled me. I would like to have another one when I reach about 33-35 weeks.

My insurance only paid for 2, unless there's a medical reason for more. I only have 2. Ask your doctor. You might still have another one coming up or you might have to request another one.

While I haven't had a 3D ultrasound, I have had 5 other ultrasounds, and have one more scheduled for 35 weeks (I am 33 weeks right now). But I have had a lot of complications, with a septated uterus, gestational diabetes, and a few other minor issues....I think the number of ultrasounds done depends largely on the individual pregnancy and the absence or presence of complications. The reason I still have one more scheduled is they want to monitor the size of the baby due to the gestational diabetes. I would venture to say though that the norm is probably to only do one, maybe two in a normal uncomplicated pregnancy. Good luck!

I had 4 ultrasounds, one at 18 weeks for routine, one at 22 weeks because the first ultrasound they couldn't see everything right (then they changed my due date because I wasn't as far along as we thought)... then I had one at about 34 weeks because they thought my baby might be breech. (though she wasn't, thank god!)

I also had an ultrasound at 41 weeks when I had a non-stress test and a fluid level check. While I was there they asked if I wanted to see the 4-D ultrasound because my baby was facing the ultrasound machine so I got to do that too!

Most of the time you have to make a special request and I think it sometimes costs something, but I'm really not that sure. Ask your doctor about it though, he/she will be able to tell you where to go get one and if it costs anything and how much.

I've had 3 so far, was supposed to have a 4th the other day, but I cancelled it. Our insurance is paying half, but that still leaves us with a $200 bill each time, so no more!! I had a 3D one done last time (at 27 wks) and it was a bust. It looked very distorted except for the picture of his hand, it was perfect. But to wait an hour and a half in the waiting room for a hand picture just didn't seem worth it, I would have been happy with a regular ultrasound. But if you do wish to have one, the dr told me the best time for a 3D is between 26 and 28 weeks. I guess it's best to get it done before the baby is squished and crammed and can't move much. And no, I did not request the 3D since they just include them at our hospital. But some places either don't offer them and you have to find another clinic, or they offer but you have to request them. You'll just have to ask your dr. Good luck!

I've had 5 already and I'm only 10weeks! The first was at about 5 weeks, only a yolk sac. Then 1 at about 6 weeks because of bleeding where they found heartbeat. Then I was in a very bad car accident at almost 7 weeks, another U/S showed heartbeat. Then DR. wanted one 3 days later because I started spotting again! Again, all was well. That one was 3D and very cool. Then again at 9 weeks when I finally got in to a regular OBGYN. It will be 4 weeks until I see the OBGYN again and I'm kinda sad I wont have another U/S for a while! I've definitely gotten used to watching the baby grow. Not to mention, the reassurance was a must because of all of the spotting and the accident. I was concerned about any damage all of these U/S's may cause... I was told (over and over again!) that this was harmless. I would definitely do the 3D though, it's amazing~! Best wishes!

With my first 3 children, I only had 2 ultrasounds each. With my last child, the 2nd ultrasound revealed a potential problem, so they did the 3D ultrasound and found blockage in my daughters kidneys. After that I had 2 ultrasounds a month until she was born to monitor her kidneys and make sure she would be ok. ( she was born just fine) My husband is in the military, so this is the military hospital that I did this. not a specific insurance company.

You probably won't have one that late in your pregnancy unless there is a problem. There is not much that a doctor can learn from an ultrasound that late in your pregnancy- the baby is too big, and it is hard to see anything. You could always have a 3D or 4D ultrasound on your own (at your own expense, which may be a little pricey, depending on where you live.), though. Hope that helps!

Well I have had three so far, I am 32 weeks. First was when I found out to make sure things were where they're suppose to be. Second was an emergency when I started leaking fluid. Then the 16 week one that looks to make sure everything fine. I will be having a 4D done tomorrow. I am soooo excited. My doctor ordered an ultrasound and we said we wanted the 4D.

I am 22wks with #3 and I have had 3 so far this pregnancy. 1 in the beginning to see how far along, the usual 18-20wk ultrasound and a repeat of the 18-20wk ultrasound because they needed clearer pics. I was also told I would have another one a 35wks to check fluid. with the others I had 2 each.

Two is normal, the first is a dating scan, the second an anatomy/anomaly scan.

If it's pictures you are after, go for the private 4D scan. Pics are much harder to decipher when you're into the third trimester as there's not much room in there and the baby is all squashed up. Most 4D scans are done between 24-30 weeks.

I only had one but that was because I didn't find out I was pregnant until 22 weeks, so my dating and anatomy scan was done at the same time.

Congratulations and good luck!
