Is a shower water filter importent the same as drinking water?

I don't know that I can buy Werzrosn's theory on skin absorption exceeding drinking.

However, I would argue that chlorine and other volatile organic compounds are liberated in the hot steam and can be readily inhaled. I can see this being absorbed in the body, but I really can't perceive that the skin would readily accept these molecules.

We live near many old chemical plants. The town's annual water report shows the wondrous industrial byproducts that are in our supply. So we filter our drinking water. Our contaminants are mostly the VOC's, so cooking isn't a problem, it gets vaporized.

I'll have to look at this more before I would install a shower filter myself. Sounds gimmicky. I'll gladly stand corrected if there is a sound argument from a reputable source. (Searched CDC site and didn't see showers covered.)

Purchasing a water filter for your shower head may seem a little overboard, but you would be surprised to discover the difference it makes. Living in a larger city, the water quality can be less than optimal.
