Sodium. Look at the periodic table. Notice that Na (sodium) is right about K (potassium). Things in the same column behave similarly because they have the same number of valence electrons. Both Na and K have 1 valence electron and, therefore, they look to give it up so they can have a complete shell.

sodium, because both of them belong to the same family (alkali metals) and have one valence electrons. these elements tend to react very readily because they wish to give up their single valence electron to complete an octet (well, that's putting it simply...i won't go into all the orbitals and other complex stuff ><).
you can tell by looking at the periodic table. sodium (Na) and potassium (K) are in the same column, so they have similar properties! you can also tell by looking at their characteristic reactions. both sodium and potassium will blow up stuff when dropped in water.

it is sdoium because Na and K excist in the sam group and the elements in the same group behave like each other ( they are in grou 1) . but Mg is in group 2 so it will behave diffrently

Look at the periodic table. Things in the same
column are said to be in the same "family"

To the person who asked this question, what are you doing for work right now? Just curious. 7 years is a long time.

sodium
elements in the same period on the periodic table, tend to have simalar properties.
theyre both alkali metals and are highly reactive. they react rapidly with water, causing an explosion in the process (it is a hell of a lot of fun)
