I was watching the Tyra Banks show yesterday and she had two friends that weren't happy with their skin color. One lady was dark and complained about how people ignored her and guys didn't like her. She talked about how light girls get attention and at a club the guys got drinks for only the light skinned girls at her table.

Her friend was light skinned and complained how she feels out of place with blacks because of her skin color. I roled my eyes because she didn't realize how much better she has it.

They gave the light woman dark skin and it was amazing people ignored her didn't make eye contact, even mean to her she was treated like she was contagious!

I appreciate my looks because I see how much better I'm treated by black, white, hispanic, and all guys because I'm mixed and don't have light skin. But I never realized how much worse dark skinned girls get treated! I'll never complain again; I feel so bad for dark women! It must really hurt!

Rayne and abyss, your bitterness shows through. I'm just stating my opinion and going from what I see. If you don't care that people treat you badly for your skin color then all the power to you. Just don't insult me for being thankful for being treated like an equal to others instead of less than. Gezz.. You guys are too sensitive.

I didn't realize the color issue among black females until I started college. My best friend is dark complected and one day admitted that she was secretly resentful towards me because of my light skin. We had been best friends for like 8 or nine years by this time. Her comment seriously blew me out of the water and it kinda hurt. She went on to say that most guys prefer me over her solely because of my light skin. I had never knew we had issues until the day she confided in me her thoughts. After she bought that to my attention my eyes were opened to color division among black Americans, and it angered me. We are all beautiful no matter what shade we come in, but a lot of people truly couldn't see the forest through the trees. They would tell me that I can say that because I don't know what it means to be darker skinned. It was really sad because a lot of the females light, medium and dark were attractive, educated, and kind women that had a lot to offer, yet we all had this nagging sense of division based on color.

You say you appreciate your looks...you feel bad for dark skinned girls, like you missed having a curse put on you! I am light skinned about the complexion of Halle Berry but I don't think I'm any better than a dark skinned girl with the complexion of Alek Wek. I'd rather appreciate that I'm liked by everybody not just guys because I am smart and a kind person not because I'm lighter than the next girl.

The whole thing is stupid. I think dark skin is beautiful and many others (of all races) do too.

The media is to blame, sure, but this light/dark skin problem has existed in the black culture for years. I don't get it. For example, Beyonce IS beautiful, but she could never look like Jennifer Hudson. JH is gorgeous and REAL.

I don't understand how you couldn't see where the light-skinned girl was coming from. Many light-skinned black women have to deal with this from their darker "sistas." That's not right either.

BTW, you sound a tad conceited and the last paragraph you wrote was offensive in more ways than one. I don't think dark women would appreciate you feeling "bad" for them. Take that for what it's worth.

I am light skinned - french and Irish I get treated well and get lots of compliments. My friends call me the "token white girl" because they are all different - Cuban, Italian, Mexican, so on - basically everyone is different. We all have a great time and guys seem to appreciate the diversity - and when they are looking for those big green eyes they know to turn to the "token white girl" hahaha. it is all a matter of confidence and I have plenty.

It seems that u are saying Darker Skin is beneath you and people with darker skin automatically get treated bad. I'm light but I rather "appreciate" myself for the person that I am rather than my skin tone. Something u need to try.

Believe half of what you see.. . and None of what your hear.

Tyra is getting paid to do a TV show.

I didn't care who you are in this world, there will always be something to magnify on a talk show.
believe me when I tell you. . .It was an isolated incident.

yeah, its all because of the media... light skinned women are portrayed as being more beautiful in tv, movies, magazines, music videos, etc. so men and women inherently find them to be more attractive. attractive people get treated better.
