At our local public assistance office, they offer babysitting certification. They pay you to watch kids in your home from low-income families. I'm going back to school in September and I was thinking about doing this at nights. My husband works nights so it would be easiest. That and I couldn't do it during the day because of school. Has anyone ever done this? If so, did you like it? Do they pay decent at all? I'm planning on getting information frmo them, but I would like to hear about it firsthand from people who have done it.

My mother did it and she had gotten paid like $2.00 per hour per child from the state. I don't believe they pay decent at all. I have day care assistance for my children until I finish school and even after they pay the portion I still have an $800 bill left over every single month. I don't know what state you live in so they might be different. I live in Minnesota.

My mother had to pay a $50 fee for the background check, etc.. and she had I believe it was a twice a year house inspection to make sure she met the guidelines for daycare in the area of a safe house.

Oh and my mother loved the babysitting despite the low income.

Government? Pay decent?! HAH! No, they pay about half what a normal baby sitter would get AND you have to have special certification (YOU pay for) AND you have to pass a house check test (I believe monthly).

Sorry, don't know anything about it. But I would think it would be little pay. It sounds like one of those things you'd do only because you love it and for no other reason.
