the two don't have to go together, you can forgive, but to forget might not be the smartest thing to do. You learn from the situation and you use it to grow. If the guilty person changes his /her ways then there should be no reason to ever bring it up again. On the flip side, if you constantly want to bring it up and rub the persons face in it you are no better than they are and you have not forgiven them.

Forgive? Yes, mostly. Forget? Never. Everything that happens in life is a learning experience.

I forgive but I never forget. I can't permanently erase memories of things people have done to me because many of those things too terrible and often make a big change. Big changes always lead to something in my life. Only God can erase his memories... however forgiving is also just as hard but it's not impossible.

We're all sinners; we all make mistakes, and life on this crowded planet would be miserable if we weren't able to forgive others the injuries they do to us. And we should be mindful of the injuries we do to others, some of which may be inadvertent, and some of which may be unknown to us.
__Forgiving isn't forgetting or exonerating. The injury that is forgiven remains an injury even after it's forgiven. What's different is the decision not to harbor hatred or anger in association with the injury, and to call the blame accounting resolved.

because if i didn't forgive i'd be holding on to a grudge which basically would make me unhappier than if i just simply forgave. You see, sometimes forgiving is not just an act of kindness, but it can also mean sparing you from uncomfortable moments. As for forgetting, it's an option, same as forgiving, but a little tougher to do.

Forgive on first offences, but never forget. You have to remember certain things. We're always told we have to learn from history so as never to repeat it. However, as the person before said - holding on to a grudge can be a real misery. So remember everything, but don't hold onto it.

I try. I don't think anyone every forgets! But, you can forgive and move forward in life. I believe if God can forgive us of our Sins, then how can we not forgive our fellow man? We grow spiritually when we forgive.

Forgive, perhaps, forget? Never
Those that forget the lessons of past disasters, will be cursed to relive them. Who needs that? Not I.
