I work for an adoption agency and see statistics daily for the kids in the foster care system....
1.7 million children are orphans because of :
abuse / neglect and abandonement
500,000 are in foster care. (awaiting for parental rights to be terminated)
100,000 are adoptable
1 out of 5 children who are "adoptable" will turn 18 this year, and be an adult without a shred of a family.
SO in Hollywood it is becoming almost a trend to adopt in other countries. Angelina Jolie, stated , that , "It took me longer to bond with Shiloh (her biological daughter with Brad Pitt) because she wasn't a baby I was able to pick out, Like my other children"
Madonna adopted from Africa.
Though these kids were coming from poverty. Do you think maybe the focus should be on helping Kids in America? They are in fact our future. When we are gone they will be the "American Body". Watch the link beleow:

We are not doing enough to protect American children from abuse. Celebrity "demi-gods" like Madonna and Angelina Jolie shop for children like imported artwork, while foster children in America suffer sexual abuse. Changing the world for the better takes real sacrifice. It's a tragedy that people like Jolie convince themselves that they are making a difference when really they are only trying to exalt themselves.

The foster care system in America should be one of our nation's biggest priorities. Nothing bothers my heart more than knowing that children are sexually abused and grow up into abusive and disfunctional people themselves.

Stars adoptions are good publicity, but they do nothing for children. Yes, America should take care of the children here in the US, not in Africa. Africa is like a "Black Hole". It sucks charity from the world but there never seems to be anything coming back. With all the corruption, fighting, and absolute lawlessness that has existed for as long as I can remember, very little of anything given to that country gets to the common people. Personally, not a dime of mine will go to Africa. I support enough African Americans right here in the USA on the welfare rolls.

I know, and its not only Hollywood. Plenty upper middleclass adopt from Asian and Eastern Europe before going up the street to get an American Minority.

Its all relative...I'm quite sure the Russian kid is glad as pie because face it...who in Russia CAN take him?

I say focus on prevention of pregnancy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because it's easier. It took my aunt 3 years to adopt her own grandson after his mother signed her rights away from him and he lived with my aunt ALL his life. it takes not even 2 years to adopt someone from overseas. I agree with you, people should adopt here in America, but the agencies make it difficult. I also, think that SOME "upper class" folk do it as a charity contribution, to make themselves look like they are giving to the world, like they are just these great people.when really it's all for show.
