The girl was crying for everybody on American Idol, not just Sanjaya Malakar. She has some mental disorder. I'm sure if you were like that, those who made fun of her, you wouldn't like to be criticized for something you can't control. I don't like Sanjaya at all, but I think that was sweet of him to give her a hug. I bet he made her day.

A) It has not been reported anywhere that she has a mental disorder.
B) I know I'll get slammed for this, but I don't care : I think it's pathetic that our pop culture has deteriorated from little girls crying for the Beatles 40 years ago, to crying for karaoke singing half-talents on American Idol.

Like Gregory said, the theme of the show was "British Invasion" and that was how young women and girls would react with the Beatles and other bands of that era. They would cry, pull their hair, faint, scream, etc. Ashley's reaction to Sanjaya and the other Idol singers just made for better television. The producers should be blamed for making such a big deal of it!

they say the whole thing was staged for ratings and Sanjaya. The girl supposedly was in the audience and they moved her seat up to the front she was so excited that she started crying and this was all done before Sanjaya came out so they made it like she was crying for him, in reality she was probably crying because of his singing LOL

The thing is the English invasion caused a lot of girls to go into fits, just like that girl. The director and camera operator played that up with this girl for supposably the worst singer on the show. Without any background given on this girl, the jokes are going to fly.

She a completely normal 13 year old girl from Bakersfield, CA. AND she was a plant... as in the producers put her there. And it's the absurdness that people are making fun of not the girl.

She was overwhelmed and got emotional. They were tears of joy. She doesn't have any mental disorder. Geesh. She's only 11 years old. GIve her a break. She was on The Today Show. All the contestants hugged her.

We're not making fun of her as a person... we're making fun of what she did. It was funny! If you can't take the heat of the media- don't go to American Idol.

People, she was taken there by the Make A Wish foundation because she has a terminatin illness, now leave the poor girl alone!
