My best guess is that it can be either Cancer, Libra or Leo.

Actually, according to a friend of mine, the most common one would be Virgo. But she's a Virgo herself, so...

Personally I believe there's no sun sign really more common than the other, because the sun moves roughly at the same speed through all 12 of the signs. But apparently december is the most fertile month, and if you get pregnant in december chances are you'll give birth to a virgo. So it might be Virgo after all.

I still stand with my own theory, and as for rising signs - I would have to say the sign that SEEMS to be most common (see definition of rising signs) would be either Libra, Scorpio or Sagittarius - in the northern hemisphere - and Pisces, Aries or Taurus - in the southern hemisphere.
The rising sign is said to be the sign you seem most like.

I'll spare you the long and confusing explanation as to why it's different on two hemispheres (but you could compare it to the fact that Aussies celebrate christmas in summer...)

The least common sign would then be - for the northern hemisphere - Pisces, and - for the southern hemisphere - Libra or Scorpio.
