I was a reader once, but they lost me when they checked out peanut butter... I love peanut butter. Their favorite brand soaked through the bread.
Since then I don't even pick up the magazine which seems to be a good thing considering the lousy job they've been doing lately, with all the retractions and such.
Do you still count on this mgazine for objective and accurate reviews?

If their favorite peanut butter soaked through my bread, I would not be encouraged by their opinion.

However, If I were putting a lot of money into a particular item, I think I would see what they had to say.

I still rely on CR for product reviews. I also do my own checking on various internet chat boards before a major purchase. Their testing methods are at least scientifically accurate for the most part. But, they are out to sell magazines, so one must also be sceptical when they have a sensational headline. That said, they were the first to document the rollover risks of SUVs. I would trust them anyday over the manufacturers or the government, who is much more interested in making a buck than safety.

Yes, I do look at Consumer Reports for large purchases such as automobiles and kitchen appliances. I also value the information it provides about banking, health insurance, etc.

I think CR has been reviewing food items to try to get people to read it more often. I usually don't pay attention to those ratings.

I do, but take it with a grain of salt. Most of what they discover is public opinion or consensus, which is helpful, and the repair histories of the autos are hard to argue with. But they do pay too much for their stuff!
