I am writing a paper on the connection between the armor and weapons of a Samurai. I know that the armor is broken down into six diffrent pieces, but I dont know how they chose their colors or their style? I am sure they personalized it somehow but I cannot find it anywhere.... Thanks for your help

I was going to start in the era of the two fighting clans Taira and the Minamato, then progress from there into later era's.

The Sengoku Period (16th Century) was the time when samurai armor was more color-coded and uniform in appearance. Daimyo - Warlords - decked their troops out in similar armor patterns with color schemes and clan emblems for easy identification.

Date MAsamune for example used a yukinoshita-do armor type which was later known as Sendai-do.

A number of special units such as Tokugawa's Red Devils led by the Ii clan wore all red armor.

Depends on era, shogonati they were with, lots of things. Most of them had nothing but regular clothes. Samurai did not always mean a warrior. It simply meant servant, so it could have been many type people.
