My job pays well... double of basic salary, is 8 hours a day, etc, it's pretty light u can say, is as Receptionist but it looks like the most important and heavy duty of it is to serve coffee, espressos, food, teas, water, etc to everyone that come into the office! In a tray all u know.. and besides I'm forced to dress up pretty well... but at the same time they make do like servant's duties.
It feel sometimes so humilliated

Ohhh, I forgot to mention that the job is in Caracas, Venezuela, I am in my Social Communications 3rd year of career and made several courses about it in NYC. I just feel like I am not ment to be doing this, that I could be doing something at an upper scale, they said that they would give me more important duties in the PR department due to my studies, etc... but with time it's been the opposite.... I think That's why it feels like I described above for me my job.

That's the same I do, and I lead meetings for selling entire ships to clients. Even if your simple work is quiet, try to
appreciate those hobbies and adore nature and art when
you get a chance to share and show thanks to God. If your
up for it, journalling and improving the world around you has
nice catholic, temple, prayerful clubs to be creative.

Have you ever watch the movie 'Maid in Manhatten". If not, you should watch it. In the movie Jennifer Lopez's charcter says something along the lines of "I dont want to defined by my line of work. I want to be defined by the person I am". THere are so many jobs in this world and there are people to do all of them. Are all receptionists stupid people who live only to serve. NO!!!! THe jobs is what you make it and if it hurts your ego to do this line of work than find a job where you can be in more of a leadership position. I don't look down on you because you are a receptionist- you shouldnt look down on yourself either. Receptionists are like the glue that keeps an institution together. If your job wasnt important to your company- you wouldnt have a job. Look at it as- they would be lost without you! You need not be humilliated. You are better than alot of people in this world- people who choose not to work and make a living. By doing what you are doing, you are contributing to society and I think that is a fantastic thing

I understand the feeling, I really do. It was either a receptionist or flipping burgers, either one are pretty low on the food chain. BUT, being a receptionist also prepares you for future roles believe it or not. My friend is now an Event coordinator, caters to the clients but more professionally. I was Assistant to the VP of real estate and contruction for a well known contruction company, I had to prepare for business meetings, make the coffee, get the lunch, ect...I am now Accountant who's boss is always trying to better himself so he has a lot of investors coming in, i help prepare for their arrival. It's a job, with a lot of learning potential really.

If you want another job fine but DO IT THE RIGHT WAY. I just got laid off and don't know when my next job is coming. Ask anyone in the shelters how bad it is to do what your doing. Ask yourself what you really want: if your problem is serving maybe you want to be served? do you want to be a manager?have you ever taken a test to find out wnat sort of career your best suited for? why not NICELY ask your supervisors and human resources people if there's any opportunities for you to be promoted? ask them what kind of training you need if thats what's needed? Sit back and think about what you really want to do. NEVER burn your employment bridges and keep the lip ZIPPED at work. This doesn't mean you can't stand up for yourself but don't complain. People talk. Check online for articles on how to change jobs but do it AT HOME. Cover your ***.At the very least be greatfull for the job you have. PEACE and GOOD LUCK.

Girl, you just described my job :) not exactly, but pretty close. I'm currently going to school, so this job fits well. I don't think your being disrespected. Clients come in, and I ask them if they would like something to drink if they do I get it. That's just the way it is sometimes. I try not to see it like I am there servant, I see it as part of my job is to greet clients. When I get my degree I'm sure I'll have to find someone to do the same thing someday, so don't take it that seriously and be thankful that you have a job in today's economy!

I'd love your job. And so would many people. If you really hate it leave, but you know you could also re-frame how you think about what you are doing.
Great people through the ages have talked about the joy of service. To offer our loving service to others is a gift and a pleasure. You may be the person who makes another's day.
See your work as your gift to the world and you may find it becomes a pleasure not a pain..

Take a look at your advantages and expand on them. You already have your foot in the door with some transferable skills and experience with the company you are at.
What more could you do in your job or what position could you move yourself into within your company.....or try applying at new places, the job role may change to something more your liking.
