Yes they grow quite large. The fish will likely outgrow the 10 gallon too. They seem to grow a lot in the spring and fall. Better water conditions will help them, so cudos to you for getting your pet a larger home! If you get a bigger tank you can use the 10 gallon for a quarintine tank for your new goldfish!

It is a myth that fish or anything else will stop growing if its environment is small. You should always get a tank that will accomodate the fish's adult size because they CAN outgrow a bowl or too-small tank. I don't know why everyone thinks that fish grow to fit their container; they don't.

Goldfish will grow to fit their surroundings - a smaller bowl or tank means your fish will stay smaller. More room, and the fish will get bigger. Let free in a stream or pond, and goldfish can grow quiet large! It's not inhumane to keep it in a smaller bowl though - it's just how the fish adapts to its environment. Just don't try to put it in a smaller tank now!

hte fish will grow equal to its surrondings. My aunt has some "miniature" coy(goldfish) that were regular size in a bowl. Went to a 5 then 10 gallon and so on for tanks. They now spend summers in outdoor pool and inside in 500 gallon aquarium in the winter ,they are now all about 5 or 6 pounds each.

Yes, they grow. My sister had her goldfish for approx. 6 years, and it was BIG. I used to tell her we were going to fry it up for supper! I was j/k of course.

Of course they can. In fact, keeping it in a bowl is likely to result in stunting its growth. It isn't healthy for the fish. He will be much happier in the aquarium now.
