I am a single parent and work full time. I have had very severe health problems that require daily treatment and alot of hospital appointments. This isn't fair on me or my employer and I am considering giving up my job for a few months to get better. I claim working tax credits to pay for my sons nursery place but if I go on disability benefits will I get any help to keep my son in nursery as we both need this place, him as he needs the stimulation and me coz I am not fit enough to look after him full time. Any one know what I am entitled to or in this situation ??

Just go off sick for a few months to recupe. If you quit work & apply for disability, that will be your lot along with housing & council tax benefit. The whole point of having sick leave is for this reason. I was off sick last year for 6mths and am still attending doctor appointments now but I do this without losing money because it's standard work entitlements.

Good luck

Hello. With regards to your son, you can contact your local Early years centre. They are now widely known as Sure Start centres. They are places for children under 5 and their parents to go to access services and information. They are good quality early learning combined with full day care provision for children (minimum 10 hours a day, 5 days a week,48 weeks a year)
good quality teacher input to lead the development of learning within the centre
child and family health services, including ante-natal services
parental outreach
family support services
a base for a childminder network
support for children and parents with special needs, and
effective links with Jobcentre Plus to support parents/carers who wish to consider training or employment. They offer free serivce to parents on benefits but only on circumsances like your self and chidren who have problems at home. Firstly you should contact your childs health visitor who can help refer you to them. In your sistuation you may state in your application about your disability as they will strongly take this into account when acessing your childs placement. My children were very clingly to me and I had suffered from depression. When I was access I was accepted on these grounds for a placement. My children have been going to these centre since they were 2yrs and I only started to pay when I was well enough to go back to work a year after. They are extremely excellent learning facilities for children from 0-5yrs and has good links with social services and the health services. Please also note that from april 2006 3-4yrs olds are entitled to free early years education. If you do dicide to go back into work again the fees are quite
expensive compare with other child care facilities but every bit worth it! For further information please contact your helath vistor or you may go on their website to search for early year centres at www.surestart.gov.uk. I strongly recomend that you contact your health vistior and get them to write a referral to your chossen centre. I know exactly how you may be feeling and its hard but I do hope this has helped. All the best and good luck!

hun your best bet is to go and speak to someone in your local social services....

you should be entitled to benefits...

i mean they will give money to every lazy bast*rd who can't be bothered to work and is happy to scrounge of the state and the tax payers money so you, being someone who really needs it, and works and pays your taxes should be more than entitled to it!!

best of luck hun
