Atlantis was first mentioned by Plato and descrived as a land of plenty, a huge island full of prosperity and inmorality, which sunk to the bottom of the sea in a single day and night. The description he gave for it was outside the gates of poseidon, which is what the greeks called the straight of Gibraltar (the waterway between Spain and Africa.) Many people currently believe that the Azores are a remnant of Atlantis since they are the first island chain of the straight of Gibraltar to match Platos description. There are a few people who dissmiss the description of the gates of Poseidon and link Atlantis to the Italian island of Sardinia which is where my family is from, though it would be cool to say my motherland Sardinia is Atlantis I cannot dismiss the facts. Others dismiss the whole idea of Atlantis having ever existed altogether.
