Considering how much the ps3 is and what it can do I would stick with the 360, unless you are a really avid gamer then it may be worth the money

I just faced this dilemma, and chose an Xbox 360. I'm not historically a big promoter of Microsoft, but it just made sense once I did some research.
By way of background, I have a PC and lots of good games were being released for consoles and NOT for PC's. Even if some were, they were often cheap "ports" ie not built for PC's and not as fun.
I owned a PS2 as well, but it was damaged when I moved some time ago and I didn't replace it.
The reasons I chose an xbox 360 are this:
a) Quanitity of games:
The Xbox 360 has been out for 1 year, and has lots of games, while the PS3 has only been out for a short while and does not have nearly as many.
b) Exclusives.
Back in the days of PS2, lots of games (like the Grand Theft Auto series) were exclusive to the PS2. Now GTA is coming out on Xbox 360 at the same time as PS3, along with many other games that used to be PS2 exclusives. To be fair, there are some exceptions like the excellent Virtua Fighter 5, though that particular game is simply being released later on Xbox 360 than it is on PS3.
c) Cost:
I found that the PS3 is $200 more than the Xbox 360 when I got to the store. I bought my Xbox 360 with 20GB Hard Drive (and two free games) for $499 Canadian, while the PS3 with 60 GB Hard Drive would have been $699 Canadian. If one is on a really tight budget they can save $100 and buy the Core Xbox system without a Hard Drive for $399 Canadian.
d) Blu-ray
This one was really critical for me. Buying a PS3 forces you to pay for a Blu-ray player, which is one of two types of High Definition formats that are competing right now. (The other is HD-DVD... think of it as Beta versus VHS.) I have a REAL problem with being FORCED to buy the blu-ray player that I don't want! You can buy an HD-DVD player for an Xbox 360 if you choose, but you don't have to.
e) Visual quality & Power
This is contentious. Some say that the PS3 will outstrip the Xbox 360 within the year, but others comment that the Xbox 360 is easier to program for. Further, the current crop of games appear very similar when you compare PS3 and Xbox (see below). The consensus seemed to be that eventually PS3 will probably be better, but no one knows for sure.
If most games continue to be cross-platform (see above), it's likely they'll be made to suit both consoles, and thus not look significantly different on PS3, even if it is a superior machine somehow. It appears that it is in the exclusive games, which are specifically created just for that console, where the graphics, etc truly shine.
f) Timing:
A BIG part of my decision was timing. I wanted the best system I can buy right now with the most games and best performance. I believe that right now that's the Xbox 360. 2 years from now, who knows, but I'm not interested in "investing" in a game console, I want to play it, and lots of games, right out of the box!
In sum, I didn't want to pay $200 extra for a blu-ray player I don't want, for less games, and a system that will (possibly) be better some time in the future.
I'm sure the PS3 would be a fun system to use, and it would not be a horrible mistake to buy it, but for me too many factors weighed against buying it right now, if at all.

ok.........Been a big PS2 fan for many years, indeed i got one from day 1 when they were fetching £1000 on ebay.. Never thought for one minute that my allegiance would change, i allways thought the original xbox was good but not as good as ps2..Gran turismo rocked for years...
Dilema time though....One day i walked into toys r us and saw call of duty 2 running on a high def.....WOW......Bought the lot there and then....Including HDTV to play it on....That was over a year ago... Since then a whole new world has oppended up to my game play. Endless nights racing people all over the world on PGR3 and Test Drive......Playing a sniper in a snow covered russia, and shooting people ive never met...
Get the idea......40 quid for a game i am still playing a year later.....the value for money is fantastic.....
So we come to the PS3, i went to pals on the day of release, and had a good few hours playing about.....
My first impressions were not amazement as they were with the 360, but i appreciate that when 360 came out it was a massive step from ps2. However i was hoping to see some potential in the ps3
Played resistance for 10 mins.....not a patch on COD2, never mind Gears of War.....Played motor storm, basically very poor, graphically and gameplay, F1 looks like a PS2 game..Then came the Gran Turismo HD demo......WOW knocked me for six......Excellent graphicaly, and we all know the legendary Gran Turismo will play fantastic..
However heres the crunch £425.00 plus bits......if you shop around you can get a 360 and a HD tv for that....
I personally believe, bear in mind that i have been playing games since the ZX spectrum, that Sony have dropped a bit of a boo-boo. They seem to have missed the point, I dont want to watch movies in the front room, or surf the net, or download music etc etc.....I want to play GAMES that keep me hooked till the early hours, that make me want to switch on my console as soon as i get in from work...Now i know that PS3 games will come and they will be amazing... But not yet and not at that price.....
So no doubt one day my 360 will end up in the loft with the PS2, the PS1, the 64, the spectrum and evey other machine up there, and be replaced by the PS3.....I just think its not going to be for quite a while yet....

Right now you buy the Xbox 360. The playstation 3 won't be worth buying to at least Christmas. Too pricey and not enough games.
I truly believe the PS3 will eventually be the better console to own but only a fool would pay £425 for a machine they could get easily for £300 at Christmas.
It's a well no fact that the first wave of games for a new console aren't that good anyways as developers all ways need time to get used to the software of the system before they start exploiting it to its max potential.

well ps3 is 2% better graphics then 360, but PS has a blue-ray player build in and that would be handy in a few months time
for the price difference and playability, go for ps3
AND LETS WAIT FOR THE NEXT XBOX
