have you defraged your computer in a while? you MUST DFRAG once a week for a computer that operates in good standing. From the start menu, click start, programs, accessories, system tools, defrag, and defreag it until it is finished. If you have never done it then it might take some time to finish. LET IT FINISH. ALso do under system tools disk clean up, and finish it. This should improve your computer performance

Windows 95 = its one of its characteristics
Win 98 = just restart each time you get that
Win2000 + = over heating graphic card, screwed motherboard and a need for a new computer if problem persists

Video card overheated. clean the video card and the case fans. If the problem remains you have a fried video card and will need to buy a new one. You could try reinstalling/updating the video card driver from the manufacturer website.

A virus or spyware. It could also be drivers for your video card. Try going to www.driveragent.com to see if your video card drivers are up to date. If that does not help try using AVG Anti-Virus, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware to remove any viruses or spyware you may have.

they call that crash of death, locked up huh, you may need to run scan disk for errors on your c drive and if you have d drive letter. Also might need to turn some programs off thats auto running when you start
