I already sympathized with the plight of the Jews, as much as anyone who has never experienced such profound and sweeping loss as that can, through the Diary of Anne Frank and Schindler's List. So reading his book didn't change my mind about anything but it certainly gave me insight into what it must have been like to be so thoroughly persecuted and annihilated. It gives me hope that if one can survive what Weisel did, then surely I could survive just about any heartbreak. As well as the hope that the circulation of these materials keeps this tradgedy in the public mind so that in remembering, an event like that might never happen again.

He has his detractors, of course, who suggest that he hasn't stood up for others who are being repressed, particularly the Palestinians "by" the Jews, but there are many sides to all stories.

Generally, he is a prolific and brilliant writer, who has kept the plight of the Jews, and, by extension, other victimized peoples, in the public eye...lest we forget.

Since psychopaths (and dictators), generally, abound on this planet, often in "leadership" roles, his "reportage" on horrors and atrocities always remain timely.
