If you wish to stay friend, it's only because you want to be able to go back to your lover, so don't breakup, just take a break...

Easy, you break it off at the right time. Most people don't do this and wait too long to the point where one person hates being around the other one. The other doesn't even see it coming some of the time. If you accept that it isn't right, stop having any intimate relations, talk to the other person, and end it in a civil fashion, you should be fine. It also helps if you waited to be intimate to see if there was actually a real bond of friendship there.

It's hard.. The friendship will fail simply because if either of you still have feelings for the other then whenever you hang out or do things as friends it will be too emotionally stressful.

You can be friends enough to say hi when you see each other, but as for hanging out on a daily basis it just doesn't work out unless both of you are at 100% agreement of the friendship and desire nothing further.

even though u guys break off and are still friends , you guys are obviously still gonna make out. then after a few months later he will ask you out again , and it will always be an on and off thing with u both , know why? cause once u give in , he will keep coming back when he cant get it somewhere else

You don't, it's not possible.

No guy will want to stay friends with you afteward, to think otherwise is just fooling yourself. Now he might pretend to stay friends, but only on the off chance he can nail you.

Stop thinking like a girl and start thinking like a person.

I think the saying is friends to lovers, but never lovers to friends...but you know maybe you could start a new trend here. maybe you could tell the person that you are always going to be friendly towards them, and you are going to call them occasionally to see how they are. They could ignore you and hang up..but hey, you tried. Point and fact: one of my best friends is a guy, and he and his wife of 15 years broke up and divorced...and guess what, they are friends now. They will never reunite but they are friends because they BOTH decided to remain friends. So it can be done, but it takes maturity and both parties must agree.

i have done this plenty of times. when you break up with someone be nice and if you still wanna be friend tell your ex and if they don't wanna just be friends and are mad about it then they are not worth it.

it doesnt work. someone ends up wanting more than the other and someone getting hurt is inevitable, ecspecially after a long committed relationship
