Hi, I have a chip on my windscreen. Autoglass tried to fix it but have said I need a new one as it would fail an MOT. My service is due next week, will they try to fit a new one and charge me even though I could get a new one on my car insurance?

Get a new windshield before the inspection.

Your car will fail its M OT unless you get it replaced let autoglass do it frankly I cant see your problem if your insurance is paying.

if you are fully comp ins and have windscreen cover then have it done on the insurance,99% of this cover will not affect your ncb,you only have to pay what ever amount it is for excess normally around £25-50.

a garage cant do any extra work on a scheduled service without your consent. additional work should be reported, advised or quoted before undertaking repair.
but do mention you are aware of the chip and are negotiating repairs through your insurance

The garage should only carry out work that has been sanctioned by you. They should notify you of any work that needs doing to pass the mot

Provided chip is less than 10mm. across, and is not in the 'swept area' of the wipers, then it should not fail M.O.T.
Garage cannot effect repair or replacement without your consent. It is not part of service.

no, not if you tell them not to. they should ask you if you want it replacing before going ahead with any work that isnt routine. you're probably best getting it replaced on the insurance sooner rather than later anyway.
