I went for my annual appointment today with my OBGYN, during my exam my doctor tells me that my uterus was enlarged. When I asked what that was caused from, he said pregnancy was the first thing. When my blood test came back negative for pregnancy he scheduled a sonogram for the following week, however when I asked what else it could be, he kept saying he wasn't sure, the sonogram would let us know. has anyone else ever been in this situation. I am 22, and I thought I would be relieved that it wasn't pregnacy because my husband and I both have one semester of college left, but now I wish it were pregnacy because now my mind is going in a thousand different directions trying to figure out what it could be. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Fibroids are another reason for an enlarged uterus.

The most common occurrence in the uterus is fibroids.
Fibroids can grown on a stock.
Just like a plant and the leaves grow off of it.
This would cause the uterus to become enlarged.
Although, keep in mind when a doctor says that it is enlarged, to what degree did he mean.
Try not to imagine it bigger then it is, it could be slightly larger.

Fibroids are very common in the uterus for many women. And most times tend to go away on their own.
Pregnancy, and menopause are the sure cures for getting rid of them.
But, they do need to be investigated by an ultra sound, or other means of seeing if they are changing, meaning growing more or shrinking.

Try not to worry. Worry is the worst thing for women....and does cause us to be more prone to other such growths in the body.
All the best to you....and again..."Don't Worry!"

I just went thru this. I was told my uterus was enlarged about 4 months ago. After a series of ultrasounds and biopsies, they did not know what the problem was. I was in pain though so I kept going back to the doctor and even changing doctors until one finally stuck his hand into my cervix and when I whinced in pain, he said I had what's called Adenomyomas. I was placed on the birth control Yaz and I've been much better since. Are you having pain or abnormal periods?

Try not to get yourself all worked up. A woman's body is very complicated and we go thru a lot. Trust me, I've been thru so much and I'm fine today.

I was diagonosed with an enlarge uterus and it ended up being just a infection which was cured with antibiotics. Mine was just an inflamation of my uterus. Also i know that endometrious or a growth can enlarge your uterus. Just be patient and think positive. Good luck.

fibromas: My mom had 2 of them. They are growths in the form of "mass balls" that need to be surgically removed.

It can be serious or it can be just that , a growth. The doctor will be able to see it very clearly in the sonogram

Here is some more in-depth info.

Prepare for bad news, that's all I can say, but it could be that everything is fine! I don't think the doctor wanted to worry you without knowing what it was.

Honey, I know you're anxious.

But, please wait for the doctor to do a sonogram.

Anyone can "GUESS" on whats going on with YOUR BODY.
