I play in this basketball league where the refs swear they know it all. This is what happened. I hit the ball away from the offensive player. The ball was headed out of bounds but it hit the ref who was standing out of bounds and came back to me and I took it the other way for a layup. The ref blows the whistle and says the ball was outbecause it hit him while he was out. Was that the right call or not?

of course that's the right call

if the ref is out of bounds and it hits him the ball is out of bounds same as if it hits a player who's out of bounds

a ref isn't part of the court but can't be used as something to bounce the ball off of either

unfortunate play if the ball could have been saved but you can only play it off a ref if he or she is in bounds. Same rules apply for out of bounds

Sorry man, I think that was the right call because, since the ref was out of bounds, the ball hitting anything out of bounds classifies as the ball going out of bounds. I.E., if the ball hit a chair that was out of bounds & came back in, it would still be out of bounds.

If the ref is standing out of bounds and it hits him, it's out of bounds. If he's standing in bounds and the ball hits him as it is about to go out of bounds, it is in bounds.

In most sports, the ref is part of the playing field. Like, a table or wall out of bounds. If the ball hits a table or wall out of bounds, it's out of bounds. Same with the ref.

Right call. The ref is part of the floor. If it hits him and he is out of bounds, sorry.

Judgement call for the ref. If there was clearly much open space around him and you likely would've retrieved the ball if he wasn't there than he could've ruled that you get possession. You certainly would not get the layup in addition... Either way its his call, so it is the correct call if he ruled that by the ball hitting him it allowed you to get it.

if he would have been in bounds, then it would have been incorrect call, but if he was standing out of bounds, then it was out, but he should not have waited for the bplayer to go all the way down and make layup

i think of a minimum of as quickly as an afternoon is powerful, especially in case you adult men chat it up for a on a similar time as and the telephone conversations are stable. And there are not any "regulations" truly. If a female says you may call her than call her. in step with possibility not the 2nd you get domicile, yet you do not could wait 3 days or something. in spite of you do do not bypass away issues final minute although. in case you opt to invite her to cling out Friday supply her a minimum of (!) a days word in any different case she might produce different plans. desire that facilitates :)

Definely right, just as if it hit the scorers table or the bench out of bounds.

of course it's the right call. what if it had hit a pole or chair or table and bounced back in? would you have still gone for the layup?
