I was coming back from school today and the guy in front of me hit a poor squirrel. The jerk didn't even slow down and he was definitley speeding. I avoided hitting his twitching body, but in retrospect maybe I should have to take him out of his pain. Somebody else probably did. Anyway I sped up a little to catch up to the driver and made a right turn to see him. ****** was on his cell phone. So have you guys ever hit any animals?

And just for the record I know that roadkill happens and its better to hit the animal than swerving and hitting another car perhaps, but if it can be avoided, it should be. Also I have no problem with killing animals if its for a purpose (I hunt dove for example to eat the meat), but in this case its absolutley unneccessary and its wrong to do it for your own amusement.

Yeah i hit two animals in two days. it was sad. i was on my way home and it was dark out and a raccoon ran out in front of me, i tried my best not to hit it but it was impossible. i called my boyfriend crying. and the next night a possum was in the middle of the road and there was no way i could avoid that one b/c there was traffic behind me and in the oncoming lane. once again i called my boyfriend in tears.

It is sometimes completely unavoidable when the animal darts out in front of you. I have hit a bird in low flight - it crossed the hwy at grill level from the bushes - I never saw it, I only heard the thunk and saw the aftermath - there was no way to miss it. I have also hit a deer on the hwy at 3 am. It darted out from the side of the road at the very moment that I saw it's eyes reflecting my headlights. It took off in an angled run across the road and away from me but at my speed and even though I swerved into the same angle I hit that poor thing with the side of the truck and unfortunately only mortally wounded it. I felt quite bad for the animal but I was happy to have not hit it head on where it would have crashed through the windshield and killed my passengers.

I doubt that the person you saw hit the squirrel did it for sport. You said he was on the phone but regardless - squirrels are tiny animals that dash out under the normal line of sight unless they are well ahead of you. Sadly stuff happens.

I had a friend who didn't hit a possum, so she backed up to run it over. I thought she was sick. I don't like her. I also had a cousin do the same thing to a possum!!! But after he did it, he felt SO guilty.... What's with people trying so hard to kill possums?? I think they are disgusting too, but I don't want to kill them!

Another time, I saw a squirrel stand there and wait for the car to be at a close distance, THEN it ran into the street, into a car! It was like it was playing a game to see if he could make it across without being hit!! He bumped his head under the car, but after the car passed, it ran onto the other side of the street, making me slow down (I just left a stop light, so I was already driving pretty slow)....

And another time, there was a dead squirrel that I noticed at the last minute, and an over it..... I cringed! I know it was already dead, but it still made me feel bad

Oh, you mean hit with a vehicle. No, I have not, not a live one anyway. I probably have run over some roadkill in the past.

As far as hitting squirrels and other animals, I did try slapping a squirrel once to stop it from making a pest of itself. It sat there stunned for about 5 minutes, and then gave me a lot of space as it continued to do its thing for quite a while. At the end of the day it presented me with an acorn as a peace offering.

I've hit a squirrel once in my car. I didn't try to, and I started crying when I got to my destination. I realize that sometimes it happens, but geez...

I also ran over a garter snake with my 4-wheeler. I thought it was a piece of rubber in the road. I felt bad about that too, not as much, but still bad.

When I first got my BB Gun (Red Ryder), I shot a bird, and it wasn't even completely dead and my dog caught it and ate it in 2 bites. I cried for days over that one. I put away the Red Ryder unless I was shooting pop cans.

I guess I am still traumatized by these things...hmmm...maybe I should work on that. I know I would never kill an animal without a reason (food, put it out of its misery).

I hit a squirrel once that was darting back and forth through heavy traffic. I was elected. But the drivers behind made it quick. I also hit a black cat one time that was darting back and forth. I felt like hell thinking it belonged to some kid and turned around and drove back to find it dead and thrown on the grass. Every driver encounters this situation and there are fewer that have not, than those of us who have. Don't feel bad because you will know what to do next time. Peace.

I was driving an ambulance once, to a heart attack, red lights a siren, and a dog ran out into my lane. I swerved into the oncoming lane and the dog ran into THAT lane too. So I swerved back into my land and if you can believe it, the dog ran back into my lane. Maybe he was dazzled by the flashing lights. But at that point I was going 60 mph and he was like ten feet away and I had to just grit my teeth and mow him down. Cause if I swerved again, I'd have rolled the ambulance - it was an old van type from the 80s. But I felt terrible doing it. But what can you do?

I've hit & killed a squirrel & a rabbit.
I love animals & rescue them all the time. I have often jumped out in the road to save a bird before it gets ran over. My husband does not care & puts his foot down to hit animals. That was until he arrived home one night & said he had hit a bird that was sitting in the road. It turned out it was stuck in the grill of the car. It was a little owl. I told him they were rare & he was upset. Now he slows down for birds in the road.

I can't tell you how many animals I have hit. It always makes me very sad. It is almost impossible in the area I live in not to his something once in a while. Our road is nicknamed, "Rabbit Run Road" because literally dozens of rabbits run crazily across the road at a time. I hate driving on it during that time of day and I avoid it if I can.

I also think it is very wrong to hurt or kill animals if it is not necessary. I have never hurt an animal but i did see a poor deer be hit by a SUV. The person slowed but it was too late. When it happened, I bawled.
