I think they are on their way. The have some young prospects and a bunch of money for unrestricted free agents. Hopefully they will go after skill instead of size this time.

Fear not for next year, the flyers will be on the turnaround. With the team being so young right now and just starting to gel by the time the season starts next year the players will be able to play like a team that knows eachothers habits. If forseberg comes back then its nothing but good news for the flyers, but if not, they still got gagne, upshall, richards, umberger, carter, and kapanen coming back as leadership. Also we will be able to get the number one prospect in next years draft and look how much that has helped out the pens. As for the goalie situation as much as i like biron, he is getting old and nittymakki might be back to his old self cause his surgery would of had time to heal completely. Look for the flyers to make some big moves in the offseason to start bringing in the young talent that is floating around. The flyers are going to look to add more speed to the team and ed snider is commited to the turnaround, Im sorry NHL and especially the atlantic division, the very hated (though I dont know why) flyers are coming back to the top where we dont plan on leaving for a while. GO FLY GUYS

If they can hold onto Biron and sign the top pick they'll have a decent turn around, but I don't think it will be anything immediately huge.
However with the whole salary cap system they have now, there's a larger free agent market on a yearly basis. If their GM can make some good moves on top of the above thoughts then I could see a decent turn around.
Although, my love for the Rangers prevents me from hoping for any such thing ;-)

The Forberg's trade turned out better than anyone could have expected, I think. Now with Biron starting a full season ,after he signs, of course, he will be a great addition. I'm sure going from a first place team to dead last really made his season. Let's not forget where Buffalo was a few years back. Philly has a bunch of great players now to rebuild with. The only way to go now is up!!
Hatcher's days are numbered...

i think they will be on the low for a while
but they will have an abundance of prospects
i personally hope they are last every year, because i am a ranger fan, but in a few years, they will develop enough guys through the system and maybe become playoff contenders again
i think getting biron was a bad idea, they gave up a 2nd round pick, for a goalie when they arent gonna be playing him that much
i still think nittymaki will be their starter next year

biron will be the starter or perhaps nittymaki and him will have a rotation, the flyers will have a better year, but still be out of the playoffs, esche will probably sign with la or someother team with a need for a washed up goalie

A goaltender is only as good as the defencemen in front of him
The Flyers need to put all the Phantoms back in the AHL where they can mature and become NHL caliber players over time
Then they need to get some already established NHL players and get the them playing as a team
If they go into next season the way they ended this season, we're in for another year of cellar-dwellers

They have the makings of a good young team. Depending on how they develop, playoffs are real possibility. They have made some good acquisitions, but still a way to go. They get into a lot of close games, lose them, so they aren't that far off if they solve goaltending and get another goal scorer.

Esche will take Conklin's place in Columbus. I never thought he was good enough.
Biron will be decent but not great started.
Nitty will be a decent but not great backup.
Gagne and other will rememeber that they have talent and not play like the worst team in the NHL.
Management will realize that big, slow players don't cut it in this NHL. They'll sign a couple of quicker players.
Flyers will finish #9 in the East.
Philly will still have arguably the most loyal hockey fans in America (this coming from a Devils fan).
