The Greeks invented Democracy, which of course has had an effect on modern political life, i appreciate the fact that I have a say, however small, in how my country is governed and who by (though of course in Greece the vote was limited to a fairly small minority of people, male citizens, but still it was a start). The Romans invented effective plumbing, and of course central heating, the modern version of which are great blessings of civilisation. I would hate to do without them. and of course they built good roads, which made travel easier, i appreciate being able to travel as well.
