I heard that if you can't get your car smoged the DMV will pay you to get rid of it. Is that true? If it is, where can I get more information.

What state do you live in?
California does have a program that "retires" older vehicles that don't pass the emissions test.
There are some hoops to jump through though. And it takes quite a while to process, and then finally get the check.

That's true in some places. Trouble is that if what they pay you won't get you new transportation... In Texas, They have a program to help you pay for repairs. Also, if you have to spend more than a certain amount, you pay for a partial repair and they will pass it. I've also heard that the product RXP is good for cleaning out carbon deposits. I have not had to use it, but a bottle is something like $10. Put in one bottle per tank for a couple of fill ups and it just might get you to pass,

I don't know about the financial issues at stake, but if your vehichle can't pass a government smog test, you have problems... air pollution is bad enough from a good car, and it's awful if left unchecked. If you can possibly find a way to get your car off the road, please do! The world thanks you for it :-)
