Nope, not a joke. I have a large birch tree planted very close to my house. It is old and the roots are working there way into the foundation.

It doesn't matter when you cut it down, but ideally when its out of leaf (dormant), not only will there be less mess but the tree will Have the least amount of potential energy to return. Its also worth baring in mind that Baruch tree's rarely produce suckers and like pine trees, will not grow back once they have been cut off..

If anyone tells you different, their full of Crap..

You shouldn't cut down birches. They are living creatures just like you and I.

i dont think there is any best time. however it would be best to cut it wnen the leaves are gone. makes it much easier. also in the fall instead of spribg, when the sap is gone. as for the suckering, i will leave that to someone else.
